Big Brother: Evictee Christian Believes Derek X. is ‘In Trouble’

The most recent Big Brother 23 evictee, Christian Birkenberger, believes that Derek Xiao is “in trouble” inside the house. During his first Head of Household reign, Derek conducted a backdoor plan that ultimately sent Christian packing during Thursday night’s live eviction. Christian sat alongside his former teammate Sarah Beth Steagall on the block. He was evicted by a 7-2 vote.

Not only was Christian shockingly evicted from the game, but he also just missed making it to the jury house, which is an important factor of the game. Christian was the last houseguest sent packing prior to the jury. Now the remaining houseguests that walk out the door prior to finale night will move into the jury house rather than going home. Then they will cast their votes to decide on a winner on finale night.

Following his recent eviction, Christian spoke with Us Weekly to share his thoughts on Derek’s decision to backdoor him. He said, “Derek X is in trouble because he lost the shield.” Prior to the veto ceremony, Christian pleaded with Derek not to nominate him as a replacement. He explained that because they were both strong competitors and both already had numerous competition wins under their belts, they needed each other in the game. Ultimately, Christian’s argument did not win over Derek. As soon as he found himself on the block, he “knew [he] was going home.” As for Derek, Christian believes he too will soon be evicted; however, he does not think it will be this upcoming week.

Because Christian will not be headed to the jury house, longtime host Julie Chen Moonves was able to share details about what has been going on inside the house that Christian may not have been aware of. He was informed of Tiffany Mitchell and Xavier Prather’s efforts to try to flip the house to keep him. Christian also became aware of the secret six-person alliance The Cookout, which actually came as a surprise to him. He said, “I have never seen any of those people in the same room at one time ever.” Christian was shocked and confused as to how the alliance has been so successful without holding meetings together. He was also surprised that other houseguests have not yet caught on to the alliance.

Although Christian would have ultimately loved to make it to the end of the game to have the chance at being the first Big Brother winner to take home $750,000, he is proud of the game he played. Typically, many players who find themselves in a backdoor situation, or even just knowing they will be sent home, somewhat give up on the game within the last few days inside the house. Christian, on the other hand, fought until the very last second to try to save his game. While it may not have been successful, Christian was able to walk out of the Big Brother house proud of the game he played.

Big Brother 23 airs Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm on CBS.
