Better Call Saul: 10 Questions We Have After The Season Finale

Better Call Saul: 10 Questions We Have After The Season Finale

Better Call Saul, the prequel to Breaking Bad, just finished, setting itself up for what will undoubtedly be an explosive final season. The series has already been confirmed to be ending after its upcoming sixth season, and the fifth season ended with a big bang. The show tells the story of shady criminal lawyer Saul Goodman—a.k.a. Jimmy McGill—prior to meeting Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. There are a lot of familiar faces alongside Jimmy, as well as some new ones being introduced.

After the killer—literally—final episode, there are plenty of questions about what will happen next season in between the events that occurred there and when Walt meets Saul. Here are the most pressing ones.

What Happens To Nacho Varga?

Better Call Saul: 10 Questions We Have After The Season Finale

Nacho has been playing with fire all season as a double agent working for Gus Fring while also pretending to be firmly with the Salamancas, even working his way up in the organization.

He finally made an epic move, and it backfired when Lalo miraculously survived the attempt on his life—and he knows who was behind it. While a spoiler alert is already out of the bag—we know Nacho survives because he’s mentioned in Breaking Bad—his story, and Lalo’s hunt for revenge against him, will probably play a big role in the next season.

Will Jimmy and Kim Go Through With Their Plan To Set Up Howard?

Howard Hamlin fires Chuck on the phone in Better Call Saul

Kim seems to be diving deeper into the Jimmy abyss, whether it’s because of influence by him or simply her own desire to be bad. But she seems to want to instigate a plan to take down Howard. She wants to screw his career over, which is a new low, even for her.

Kim has always been about bending the law if it’s serving a greater good and sometimes providing small thrills with a minor con, but this would mark a point of no return for her.

What Happens To Kim?

Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul Season 5 Episode 8.

The biggest question viewers have about the show and how it ties into Breaking Bad is where the heck is Kim? Now officially married to Jimmy and seemingly in a committed relationship, they feed off one another in the worst ways.

So, at what point did she disappear from his life, or did he disappear from hers? With many fans lobbying for another spin-off starring Kim, all we can hope is that she doesn’t die.

Does Lalo Come After Jimmy?

Better Call Saul Jimmy Lalo

Lalo weirdly left with his tail between his legs after Kim gave him a stern talking to, telling him he should be more concerned about not being able to trust his own men then he should be about a smarmy lawyer.

Lalo didn’t seem to be concerned at all about Jimmy, though he was likely to call upon him again the next time he needed legal help. Will he go after Jimmy now to find out if he knew what was going on behind his back with Nacho? Or has he completely forgotten about the lawyer who got him out of jail?

How Does Mike Play Into This?

An image of Mike looking concerned in Breaking Bad

Mike has been sort of off to the side with his hands in everything going on as he works for Gus Fring and seems to pop in to save the day pretty often. How will he play into this whole Lalo situation?

He will probably be who Nacho goes to for help once they discover that Lalo is still alive. How will his relationship with Saul flourish as well, since we know he continues working with him once the Breaking Bad story begins?

What Happens With Don Eladio?

We saw Don Eladio, the big boss, happily accept a fancy car with a trunk—frunk, rather—full of money from Lalo. We also saw him discuss future plans with Nacho and share a drink or two or three with him.

By the end, many of the family and friends at the home were slaughtered by Fring’s assassins. Did Don Eladio live? Spoiler alert: fans of Breaking Bad know he indeed did, eventually going into business with Fring only to be killed by the man. But, how they get to that point will be interesting to see.

What Does Lalo Do Next?

Lalo was definitely very angry when we last saw him. He caught on to his attackers, snuck through a secret underground tunnel, then returned back to the house to kill them all—but not before forcing one who was still alive to call his boss and advise that the “job was done.”

He wants everyone to think he’s dead so he can cause some serious damage in the final season. He will probably eventually be killed, but what does he manage to do before that happens?

Where Is Tuco?

We know from Breaking Bad that Tuco Salamanca is unhinged, but, while he’s discussed in Better Call Saul, we haven’t seen him since he was arrested in season one.

Will Lalo meet up with his psychotic cousin somehow in the new season? In Breaking Bad, Tuco has taken over his uncle’s drug distribution business, which means Lalo is probably out of the picture by then. Hopefully, Tuco will be re-introduced in Better Call Saul before the moment when he meets Walter and Jesse.

Will We See Walter White?

Breaking Bad Walter White Krazy-8 Death

One of the biggest things on fan wish lists is that Better Call Saul will end at the moment when Saul meets Walter White. By the time Walt and Jesse start their drug empire, Tuco is already out of jail, which is said to be about a year after the current events on Better Call Saul.

Walt and Jesse meet Saul when he is hired to negotiate a deal with the DEA for Badger, who was arrested for selling blue meth. He is then kidnapped after failing to take a bribe from Walt. This would make for a perfect series end.

What Is Gus Fring’s Next Move?

Gus Fring’s empire continues to grow, and he clearly wins the war against the Salamancas only to face a new enemy in Walter White/Heisenberg. It will be interesting to see how he accomplishes the takeover, not only in the face of brutal threats like Lalo, but also convincing Don Eladio. The question is: how does he get to that point and fend off the pending threat from Lalo and soon Tuco once he gets out of jail?
