The Vizio Smart HDR TV is new to the market but offers good performance in almost all its uses.

Design: The 40-inch V405 isn’t curved but offers a pretty and decent design. Its bezels are thin and feature a well-brushed finish, which gives it a classic look. Its feet are placed almost at the edge, making it ideal for mounting or putting it on a reasonably wide stand.

Its stand is made of high-quality, durable plastic material. Being sturdy, it holds the TV in place, preventing wobbling. However, for best results, consider placing it on a wide desk.

Display: V405 offers an excellent native contrast ratio. Thus, it provides deep blacks, enhancing your watching experience in a dark room. Though it lacks the local dimming feature, it has a backlight control option, which completely dims the backlight.

It also has a decent SDR brightness, which makes it suitable for watching in a dark room.  If you want extremely high brightness levels, you can obtain it, but you’ll sacrifice image accuracy. There is a lot of improvement needed when it comes to HDR accuracy.

V405, like other Vizio TVs, offers decent gray uniformity and good viewing angles for a new V-series. It also provides excellent reflection handling due to the semi-gloss finish, which reduces the reflection’s intensity.

Though rarely recognized, Jensen is a brand you can rely on. Here is an overview of the TV;

Design: The 40-inch TV boasts a slim and sleek design. It has a thin black plastic bezel surrounding the screen, giving it an appealing look.  JTV 4015DC  is the most massive 12 Volt TV available for the brand.

Hardware: The TV has two connection panels situated at the rear of the TV. One panel is for output, and the other for inputs. There is a digital tuner, ATSC, and an analog tuner, NTSC, both inbuilt. It also has two inbuilt 8-watt speakers.

While most people prefer the digital option, there is a lot who like doing things the analog way. The NTSC comes in handy when looking to input a VCR, satellite receiver, and cable box through the coaxial input.

Connectivity: Since it isn’t a smart TV, you can expect limited connectivity functions compared to other options on our list. You will not enjoy wireless connectivity, Roku, or smart apps.

However, you can connect video games and other games to the TV through the input jacks.  You can also connect external devices through the HMDI cable port.

You can also connect CEC equipment such as the Jensen DVD player using the HMDI port. When connected to Jensen TV, you can use the TV remote to control the DVD as well when it comes to power, play pause, etc.—thus allowing ease of operation.

Power:  The JTV 4015 consumes only 70 watts of 12V DC power, which is quite fair considering the screen size and 12 Voltage.

Flat-screen TVs and Smart TVs are flooding the market. Like everything else, TVs are evolving with the ever-changing technology. For instance, Smart TVs offer you distinct features such as Roku technology, allowing you to stream different services.

There are numerous features to look out for when settling for the best TV for you. However, the right TV for you depends on your needs. Therefore, there is no overall best TV for everyone. To make an informed purchase, here are the two main factors to consider;

Price

The right TV to suit your needs should be within your budget. Luckily, TVs have become more affordable. So, at a modest price, you can get a TV which offers you up-to-date features. However, like any other commodity, more expensive means more features and more screen size. The more you spend, the richer the color spectrum, contrast, and deeper blacks you get.

TV Size

A decade ago, family sofas used to ascertain how small or big the the TV should be; the nearer the sofa, the smaller the TV. Another primary determinant of the TV size was the size of the room, the bigger the room the bigger the TV.  But today’s TVs are rewriting all the rules, so that’s over. Now, with mounting available, you are free to settle for any screen size. With several screen size options available, it is necessary to know how many inches you need before checking specific features. Actually, a serious interior designer will tell you the bigger the screen the better. That is how startling televisions are today.

Smaller TVs don’t cut it these days. We have moved from gigantic gaudy grey or black boxes that occupy a lot of space to beautifully crafted thin TVs, that work with almost every room size from small to big rooms. For example, when turned off, Samsung’s Frame TV is indistinguishable from actual framed artwork. When on, it’s an awesome, full-featured 4K TV.  And LG’s Wallpaper TV is credit card-thin, hangs flush to the wall with magnets, and looks like something out of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Now that you’ve completed this guide, you can revisit our list of the best 40-inch TVs and find the perfect one for you!

FAQ

Q: Are smart TVs worth the splurge?

Smart 40 Inch TVs are ubiquitous nowadays, and it is a good thing. The world is moving in that direction, so if you are not streaming now, chances are you will soon! As such, if you have the extra cash, cut the cord and start enjoying wireless control and freedom.

The best 40-inch smart TVs seamlessly stream content via a broadband connection, allowing you to catch up on your favorite shows or connect to various social media channels. Now, when choosing a new 40-inch TV, check the smart features available; most of them come with catch-up TV such as channel 4 and streaming movie platforms such as Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix.

Also, different brands run on different operating systems, meaning some smart applications only work with specific brands.  When streaming from channels such as Hulu or Netflix, it is highly recommended that you hardwire your TV to your internet network via an Ethernet cable instead of using wireless Wi-Fi to minimize interruptions and connectivity problems.

Q: LED, OLED, and QLED: Which panel type is right for you?

Most 40-inch TVs utilize panels lit by light-emitting diodes, commonly referred to as LED lights or LEDs. That’s where the name LED TV comes from. Organic LED units, or OLED TVs are slightly different because each pixel emits its light, meaning pixels in areas with less light can turn themselves off for excellent inky blacks, and blacklight blooming is not a problem.

QLED TVs are the middle ground between OLED and LED. But they are a bit closer to LED when it comes to the hardware and technology used. The only difference between them and LEDs is that they have a quantum filter between the LCD player and LED backlight, which helps produce elegant colors. As such, QLED’s produce better colors than LEDs but fall short when it comes to deep blacks and contrast levels that OLED units offer.

That said, the difference between the 3 is big and instantly noticeable. OLED TVs are the best you can buy today, but they come at a cost. Actually, they are more expensive than the other two options. If you are on a tight budget, LEDs would be your best bet. They also make a lot of sense if you are looking for additional features without spending thousands of dollars extra.

Q: What’s the right display refresh rate?

Refresh rate refers to how fast a TV redraws an image and properly shows movement.  The lowest refresh rate is 60Hz and is usually more than enough for regular programming.  Nonetheless, fast-moving sports such as football look great on TVs with quicker refresh rates, around 120Hz.

Depending on the 40-inch TV, lower refresh rates can lead to blurry images when the action is speedy. Obviously, sets with faster refresh rates are a bit expensive. Some are quicker than 120Hz, but that is overkill for the average user.

Q: What is HDR?

HDR (High dynamic range) is a bigger and better upgrade of 4k resolution. It allows for a superior difference between bright and dark parts of a scene and produces more vibrant colors, resulting in a punchier and more detailed image.

Q: Do I need a 4K or 8K TV, or is 1080p good enough?

The more pixels in a set, the better and sharper the images will appear. For several years most HD TVs peaked at 1080p (1920 pixels by 1080 pixels). Newer Ultra HD TVs come with a 4k resolution featuring 3840 pixels horizontally and 2160 pixels vertically. And some high-end units come with up to 8k resolution that features 7680 by 4320 pixels.

That said, if you have a healthy budget of more than $500, you can go for a 4k or 8k tv. However, if you want a 40-inch tv immediately, but you have a tight budget, then go with a 1080p set.  It will save you money for now, and you can always save for a nicer 8k or 4k resolution tv later. 1080p units can also serve as a simple guest room or bedroom TV.

8K sets, on the other hand, offer impressive tv capabilities. They offer 16 times more than the number of pixels in a 1080p tv and 4 times more than the number of pixels in a 4k tv.  Now regardless of the big difference, content for 8k TVs is still very scarce. Though this will change in a few years, as both 8K content and TVs become accessible, chances are there will also be newer and better TVs by that time. So, unless you can afford it without feeling a pinch, then it is not worth spending money on an 8k unit at this point.
