Berserk’s Return Beats Demon Slayer For Top-Selling Manga Spot in US

Good news for fans of Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece Berserk, as it is more popular than ever and has been beating out many modern giants in manga rankings. Even without the creator of the series leading the way, the series’ impeccable reputation ensured that its popularity would not falter.

The ranking for the highest-grossing manga of Fall 2023 is out, and the rankings contain the biggest series out there, such as One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen. There are quite a few surprises, but overall, the ranking includes many predictible titles.

The most surprising entry is Berserk, which took the number one spot ahead of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer. As expected, the list was also filled with Shonen Jump and Shueisha series.

Just in time to send off one of the best years in the manga industry, Oricon has released the ranking of highest selling manga of 2023.

Berserk Rakes In the Most Revenue

Created by Kentaro Miura and written and illustrated by Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga

2023 has seen many breaks for the medieval series, with only 9 chapters releasing, which were compiled to create volume 42. Nonetheless, this did not stop it from clenching the number one spot ahead of regular weekly series like One Piece and My Hero Academia. It is worth noting that one reason Berserk had the highest revenue is that it is usually pricier than the average weekly series. This is due to the higher quality of hardcover offered by Darkhorse Comics, the official licensor of the series. For example, One Piece volume 104 costs $11.99 and Berserk‘s volume 41 costs $14.99, with the popular deluxe version being as high as $59.99.

Demon Slayer ranked surprisingly high, and it is shocking that they are number 2 on the list, given how the series ended back in May 2020. This is most likely due to the successful season 3 which aired in early 2023, and the anime catapulted the manga sales. This should be expected once again as the series’ fourth season will air in 2024. Attack On Titan and Tokyo Ghoul made it onto the list despite being completed some time ago.
