Berserk Officially Returns With New Arc

The latest issue of Berserk‘s publisher Young Animal confirms that its September 22 installment will launch a new arc for late Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece. The announcement comes after the series went on a months-long hiatus following Berserk chapter 373 in May. While Young Animal didn’t divulge the arc’s name or what it will entail, fans who have been keeping up with the series know that it will resume where chapter 373 left off.

Berserk fans are accustomed to delays and hiatuses. Before Miura’s untimely death in May 2021, chapter releases were sporadic and far between, on account of Miura’s incredible devotion to artistic detail and perfection. The series may have posthumously resumed a few months later under the direction of Miura’s longtime friend Kouji Mori with art handled by Studio Gaga, but releases still haven’t managed to adhere to a steady schedule.

Berserk Officially Returns With New Arc

After the posthumous release of the last chapter Miura worked on, Young Animal announced that Berserk would resume with five more chapters to conclude the Fantasia Arc/Elf Island arc. Studio Gaga and Mori not only released chapters 365 and 366 simultaneously, but adhered to a biweekly schedule for the next two installments, giving fans hope for the future of the series.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t meant to be, with new Berserk chapters steadily slowing down as the year progressed. After a four-week break, chapters 369 and 370 were released one month apart from each other, followed by chapter 371 dropping two months later in December 2022. The new year saw an even more irregular and infrequent schedule. Young Animal later published new installments in March and May before finally resuming on September 22.

What To Expect in Berserk Chapter 374

Guts in a desperate situation during Berserk chapter 373.

Berserk chapter 374 will undoubtedly pick up where the last installment left off. After narrowly escaping Griffith’s takeover of the once impenetrable Elfheim, Guts has been experiencing an existential crisis regarding the relationship with his sword, culminating in a mental breakdown and subsequent blackout.

This couldn’t have happened at a worse time, for his ship has been commandeered by the Kushan army, who have found him in this compromising position. Moreover, Casca has also been captured by Griffith, and she has clearly undergone some form of brainwashing. Chapter 374 could very well continue documenting the Kushan’s assault or delve into Casca’s nightmare under Griffith’s control. Regardless of what will happen, Berserk fans should expect great things from Studio Gaga and Mori.

Berserk chapter 374 will be published in Young Animal #18 on September 22.
