Carsten “Bergie” Bergersen wasn’t a good fit for Love Island USA. The 23-year-old Cottage Grove resident debuted on the hit reality TV show’s season 5, which premiered in July 2023. He aimed to find real love and settle down with the woman of his dreams. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as he planned, leading him to become the season’s biggest flop. Bergie initially pursued Anna Kurdy, but that connection didn’t last long. Soon after, he began paying attention to the 22-year-old nanny, Carmen Kocourek. He failed to impress her due to his feud with co-star, Victor Gonzalez.
Bergie’s nice, but his personality eventually began irritating his Love Island co-stars. He started to irk everyone because he couldn’t form a strong bond with any woman. He wasn’t able to win Kassy Castillo’s heart, dropped the ball with Imani Wheeler, and messed up his connection with Taylor Smith. Initially, he promised to go to any lengths to make it work with his woman, regardless of the distance. However, he completely flipped the script after his grandpa showed concern. Bergie began worrying about the distance between him and Taylor, which made him even more disliked.
Bergie Just Took Up Space On The Show
Over the weeks, Bergie dodged bullets, saving himself from elimination. His survival on Love Island USA was strange, and it was easy to wonder why he was on the show. Bergie showed a lot of promise when he debuted and said that he wanted to find a lover. However, he couldn’t build meaningful bonds during most of the season. Stars like Hannah Wright, Marco Donatelli, Kassy, Leonardo, and others formed true connections that seemed like they’d last. In comparison, the 23-year-old man’s romance with Taylor looked highly superficial.
Other Love Island Season 5 Contestants Deserved To Stay More
Bergie’s been accused of taking up a spot on the show when other people deserved to stay more than he did. Many great Love Island USA cast members were unceremoniously eliminated. They could have had much better relationship journeys in season 5. One example is Najah Fleary, who joined the show on Day 17 and got dumped on Day 21. The 25-year-old Maryland native got mixed up with Keenan Anunay, who was already with Vickala “Kay Kay” Gray. She was hoping to form a real bond, unlike Bergie. Kay Kay also deserved to find love, but dumped Keenan and walked.
Are Bergie & Taylor Together?
Bergie’s story on Love Island USA season 5 was probably the least entertaining that viewers have watched. The 23-year-old reality star seemed great, but wasn’t an ideal pick for the reality TV show. He should have faced elimination in the first few weeks but managed to secure third place. His victory isn’t celebrated, considering how many stars who deserved to be on the show couldn’t make it. Bergie continued dating Taylor after ending the show as her boyfriend. The couple often promote Love Island USA season 5 on Instagram, and share their cuddly pictures together.
