Ben Solo Returns In Viral Star Wars Concept Trailer

Ben Solo Returns In Viral Star Wars Concept Trailer

One brilliant concept trailer depicts Ben Solo’s epic return to Star Wars following his sudden death in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Although the sequel trilogy was met with significant criticism, audiences generally liked Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. That positive reception made Ben’s shocking, rapid death in The Rise of Skywalker’s ending all the more disappointing. However, Rey’s upcoming Star Wars movie would be the ultimate way to bring Ben Solo back, and one concept trailer has shown precisely how.

The trailer, posted by The HoloFiles on YouTube, shows Rey Skywalker and Finn venturing out to find the newly resurrected Ben Solo. The video also brilliantly splices in images from Ben Solo actor Adam Driver’s recent film 65 to realistically create the concept for the theoretical Return of Ben Solo movie.

Although the trailer isn’t from Star Wars, it shows a path forward if the franchise decides to bring Ben Solo back in Rey’s upcoming movie or elsewhere.

One of the most critical aspects of this concept trailer is the way in which it crafts the story around Ben Solo’s return. This would be a complete reversal of The Rise of Skywalker’s now infamous “Somehow, Palpatine returned.” Were Star Wars to bring Ben Solo back, this would be the perfect way to do it. Palpatine’s sudden return in The Rise of Skywalker was generally poorly received, and Star Wars has made something of a habit with other unexplained or under-explained returns. Bringing Ben Solo back to Star Wars after he completely disappeared would require time and nuance.

Star Wars would also have ample motivation to make this decision, if not in Rey’s upcoming movie, then in one of the other upcoming Star Wars movies. In addition to Ben Solo being a very popular character, he could be something of a remedy to the lingering tensions around how the sequel movies played out. Audiences have also expressed clear interest in seeing such a return from Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, suggesting that this would be a celebrated twist for many (if done well).

Ben Solo’s return could also easily avoid retconning the sequels or undermining Rey’s journey. The Rise of Skywalker officially marked the end of the Skywalker Saga, and Ben’s return wouldn’t have to mean reversing that; while he is a Skywalker by blood, neither his mother nor he ever used the name. It would be even more meaningful for Ben’s story to be a Solo or an Organa story, leaving the Skywalker name to Rey. While any ideas, the incredible concept trailer included, are just speculation for now, a real Star Wars return for Ben Solo would be an excellent update.

Star Wars: Episode IX- The Rise of Skywalker

This is the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and serves as the culmination of the Skywalker saga. The film sees Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe (Oscar Isaac), and Finn (John Boyega) team up to put an end to the First Order after Palpatine mysteriously returns. Jurassic World helmsman Colin Trevorrow was originally named director back in 2015 when the film first entered development, but he parted ways with Lucasfilm due to creative differences over the script. In September 2017, Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams signed on to finish what he started.
