Below Deck: What Happened To Deckhand Tanner Sterback After Season 7

People who watched Below Deck season 7 first met Tanner Sterback when he appeared on the show as a deckhand, and it’s time to share information about his life after the nautical reality series. Tanner has moved on from the seafaring life following a few major life changes. While filming the Bravo series in Thailand, it was clear that he was on the show to have some fun. Although he did work hard for those months, on his days off, Tanner wasn’t opposed to blowing off some steam. He was also willing to hook up with a crewmate or two.

During his time on Valor, Tanner was known as the mama’s boy from Long Island, NY. He would always call up his parents when he had a break, bringing them up to speed on what he has been doing during Below Deck season 7 filming. His mother told him to be careful. She also asked him not to get anyone pregnant. His mom’s warnings didn’t stop Tanner from getting into endless Below Deck romantic drama, by hooking up with Simone and trying to persuade chief stew Kate Chastain to go out on a date with him.

So, what has Tanner been up to since departing from Thailand after season 7 wrapped? Well, a month after the reunion was filmed in February 2020, Tanner was in a serious accident.

Tanner Sterback Was Hit By A Car

According to a Tanner Instagram post he shared on March 19, 2020, the former deckhand was riding his electric skateboard home when a car crashed into him. Once he came to, Tanner, who worked with Ashton Pienaar on Below Deck, realized he was in the ICU and felt “intimidated.” However, he was grateful for the care that the “sublime” doctors at the Broward Trauma Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida gave him. Tanner revealed that his skull was fractured. He also had a few abrasions on his hands, arms, and face. After a week in the hospital, Tanner was lucky to be able to go home and be with his family.

Tanner Is Sharing His Experiences Online

A year has passed since his accident, and Tanner is opening up on public platforms. He’s also treasuring time with family, as seen above. He recently made an appearance on the podcast Altered Reality with hosts Alex Radcliffe and Anastasia Surmava, alums from Below Deck Mediterranean. Tanner recalled being on “such a high” following the show. Unfortunately, he hit an extreme low after his accident. “I was in a relationship at the time [but] we broke up,” Tanner, who worked with Below Deck Chef Kevin Dobson, revealed to the podcast hosts. “Two weeks later I fractured my skull. I woke up in the hospital and I was like what happened?

Tanner Sterback Is Facing His Fears

While Tanner felt lucky to be alive, he said, “The whole left side of my brain popped every capillary. And it’s changed everything.” As a result of the accident, Tanner is unable to party the way he used to and he is sometimes triggered when he is out. He revealed that his “anxiety is through the roof.” He now lives with depression. Tanner even monitors himself while he is out, fearing that he might “flip” and show his angry side. Since his accident, Tanner has been on an emotional rollercoaster but is making progress.

It seems Tanner’s life has gone in a completely different direction since Bravo fans last saw him on Below Deck. His accident was serious and negatively impacted his life. In time, Tanner may conquer his very understandable fears and perhaps return to the Bravo series.
