Below Deck: Times The Crew Has Jumped Ship

Below Deck: Times The Crew Has Jumped Ship

The Below Deck crew members have proven that working on a superyacht can be exhausting, and sometimes they just can’t handle the stress and decided to jump ship. Many times, charter guests can be demanding and expect top-quality service and food, as they are paying a lot of money to stay on a luxury boat. The crew gets a glimpse of how tough a guest might be by their preference sheets. Famously, chef Rachel Hargrove walked off Below Deck season 8 after seeing an upcoming charter guest’s demands. Much to the crew’s relief, Rachel came back and knocked the guests out of the water with her skills.

Besides dealing with so many hard-to-please guests, the Below Deck crew has to deal with drama within their teams as well. With so many big personalities sharing a small space, people are bound to argue every now and then. For instance, deckhand Parker McCown from Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 1 couldn’t get along with his team, whereas first mate Paget Berry thought Parker made too many mistakes and wasn’t a good listener. Deckhand Ciara Duggan also complained about Parker’s lack of skills and unprofessionalism. Parker had enough of the Below Deck life and quit his role as a deckhand, noting that it was the best decision for him at the time. Here are other Below Deck crew members who have willingly walked off the plank.

Jessica Albert

Below Deck: Times The Crew Has Jumped Ship

Below Deck season 9 chief stew Heather Chase was ecstatic when third stew Jessica Albert volunteered herself for laundry duties. Alas, Heather was soon disappointed in Jessica’s sloppy work and lackluster attitude. Heather tried to motivate Jessica by putting her on service, but she was like a fish out of water. Jessica’s attitude was also due to her finding out that her grandmother, whom she was very close to, was dealing with health issues. Three hours before new charter guests were to arrive, Jessica told Heather that she was quitting. Heather was infuriated and told Jessica to leave within an hour. Much to Captain Lee Rosbach’s surprise, Jessica walked off without saying goodbye to him or any other Below Deck teammate.

CJ LeBeau

Fans may remember CJ LeBeau all the way back from Below Deck season 1. Overall, he was more into having fun and partying than being a serious second engineer. CJ had disregard for following rules and had to be reminded to keep his shirt on in front of guests. Captain Lee then completely lost his patience with CJ when he refused to scrub the bottom of the boat, saying he didn’t want to get sick from the bacteria and germs. The final straw for CJ on Below Deck was when he convinced third stew Samantha Orme to go for a swim and drink a beer during a charter. First officer Aleks Taldykin gave them the ultimatum to take a pay cut for the charter and stay, or take all the money and go. CJ chose to take the money and bid My Seanna – and Captain Lee’s rules – adieu.

Caroline Bedol

Caroline Bedol on Below Deck

Caroline Bedol from Below Deck season 6 had one of the most dramatic exits of the franchise. Fans seemed to think that her chief stew Kate Chastain had it out for her from the beginning. Kate seemed to favor second stew Josiah Carter and even chose to bunk with him. Kate said she tried to give Caroline a chance but her inability to perform left Kate and Josiah frustrated. Caroline eventually got fed up on Below Deck with their mean-girl attitudes and gave Kate a two-day notice. With that said, she felt increasingly bullied, and as a result, she quit abruptly. Caroline later publicly said that the Below Deck environment was so toxic that she had no choice but to abandon ship.
