Below Deck: Kate Chastain Says Porsha Williams’ Engagement is for Fame

Below Deck‘s former chief stew Kate Chastain says her co-star Porsha Williams’ new engagement is all in the name of fame to create a storyline. Almost everyone has had an opinion about the new couple, and the nautical hostess is no different. No one is buying the up-and-coming romance between Porsha and her new beau, Simon Guobadia. Not only is there a minor age difference, but until a month ago the two didn’t even know they existed.

Upon hearing the news, Below Deck fans immediately felt that this was a ploy for higher ratings. They assumed this because it was announced that Bravo would be giving Porsha a three-episode spin-off about her life. The show was greenlit a month ago and will supposedly have cameras following the story of her activism.

For her part in the controversy, Kate recently spoke out on the What Else Is Going On? podcast to share her ideas about the Real Housewives of Atlanta star getting hitched. In the messiest of ways, Kate told fans that Porsha was just an actress who was looking to boost her credibility. The Below Deck chief stew also addressed the scandal that involved Bolo the stripper on the show. The blonde felt that Porsha should have tried to play down that storyline instead of running with it, as it was embarrassing. She said, “No sex-shaming. Do what you want to do. But it’s probably not the first thing you want on your Google search. It’s almost more lady-like to hide it, but at least deny it.

Kate made it clear that she was not shaming anyone, and Porsha should continue to do what she wanted to do, saying, “I think she’s playing chess all the time in her mind. She’s a very good actress. She’s very talented.” The comments almost sound catty, as she went on to say that Porsha could run her car into a school bus of children but somehow convince Below Deck fans that she was the hero, revealing, “It’s frightening but impressive.

Porsha told Bravo fans that she and Simon were engaged after beginning a relationship only one month ago. While the mother of one acknowledged that they moved fast, she also explained that they were crazy in love and didn’t want to waste one more day. The couple has decided to ignore all the Internet trolls and just try to live their lives the way they would like. Maybe the couple is planning to tie the knot at BravoCon; it would certainly make for an interesting event.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Monday at 9pm on Bravo.
