Below Deck Down Under: Laura Bileskalne Apologized To Adam Kodra On Instagram (Here’s Why It’s Not Good Enough)

Below Deck Down Under season 2 celeb Laura Bileskalne made a serious error when she crawled into deckhand Adam Kodra’s bunk after a wild night out, and she recently said sorry, but her message might not cut it. While her apology, posted on Instagram, seemed heartfelt, there are good reasons why the post won’t be enough to repair her reputation, or make Adam forgive her.

Below Deck Down Under season 2’s been filled with drama. Bosun Luke Jones got the boot for his sexual misconduct on the yacht, Northern Sun, and so did stew Laura. When people go out and party, they may drink too much and then behave badly. That happens all the time, but people still have to take responsibility for what they’ve done. The problem with Luke and Laura’s behavior is that they didn’t ask for consent. In Laura’s case, she’d been rebuffed by Adam in the past, so she definitely knew better.

What Did Laura Say On Instagram?

Laura’s apology had the ring of truth, and it’s a pretty safe bet that she’s very sorry for what she did. Her impulsivity has really hurt her career. Since she wasn’t participating in a mutual flirtation, she seems predatory. She lost a high-profile job that might have led to more Below Deck franchise jobs, and she probably won’t be offered any sponsored post opportunities at Instagram either. Those are harsh consequences, and she has to live with them, and try to rebuild.

Saying sorry’s a start. It’s a smart and compassionate thing to do. She never should have tried to force herself on Adam. She seemed very insensitive, as he didn’t want a romantic relationship with her, and he’d made that crystal clear. That’s the real problem with this situation. She already knew that she didn’t have consent. It’s not like she was hitting on him for the first time. Even if she was hitting on him for the first time, she should have asked if he wanted her to before touching him.

All he wanted was to be friends, and he told her that. Her stubborn persistence led to a situation that violated Adam’s privacy and trust, and got Laura fired. While alcohol may have played a part in Laura’s behavior, she did what she did, and can’t change it.

In her caption, Laura said, “My sincere apologies to Adam, I did not realize I made him feel uncomfortable and no one should be put in that position.” Then, she directed her comments at former castmate, Margot Sisson. Laura continued, “And to Margot to not been able to empathize, I was 29 when the show was filmed.” Laura went on to say that time was changing her. She stated that she became different when she hit 30, and now, she’s 31. Her point was that she’s grown up since the incident.

The post has a somber tone, and that’s why it rings true. It was the post of someone who’d had a lot of time to reflect on what they’d done. However, there was also a bit of a defiant vibe, due to the comment directed at Margot.

Before Her Apology, Laura Made Some Insensitive Remarks

Margot Sisson’s spoken out about the whole Below Deck Down Under scandal, commenting on Laura being let go from her job. Margot stated on Instagram, “Had I woken up to a boat full of people who had the same feelings as Laura, I would have continued to think it was my fault.” That comment followed Margot making some very crass remarks about not kicking Luke out of bed, had he tried to crawl into her bunk instead of Margot’s.

That type of commentary was really inappropriate. It downplayed the seriousness of what was happening. This, along with Laura creeping into Adam’s bed, was enough to get Laura canned, and frankly, she deserved that fate. See Margot’s moving post below:

Will The Public Forgive Laura (What About Luke)?Below Deck Down Under's Luke Jones & Laura Bileskalne, with her hands raised in a shrugging motion

Right now, it’s hard to say if the public will forgive Laura and Luke. The disgraced Below Deck Down Under castmates have learned the hard way that letting a camera crew film them night and day can end in disaster. However, on the other hand, plenty of celebrities have been involved in similar scandals and managed to redeem themselves.

It’s quite likely that both Below Deck Down Under alums are getting solid advice from PR firms or consultants. These situations are difficult to navigate, especially when the people who are involved are considered villains. While time doesn’t always heal everything, there’s a chance that Laura and Luke will be forgiven.

That being said, forgiveness may not happen soon. Right now, emotions are still raw, and there are plenty of hurt feelings among the castmates, although others are pulling together. For example, Margot and Harry Van Vliet are close. Margot praised him in her recent Instagram post. The Below Deck franchise is filled with boatmances, as well as the Downton Abbey-style dynamics between rich charter guests and the crew. While the drama’s not toxic most of the time, it can get rather poisonous, and that’s what happened when Laura made her way into Adam’s bunk.

Some reality TV villains do better than others offscreen. In general, if they’re just obnoxious onscreen, they’ll do just fine offscreen. People love to hate them. However, those who are very problematic may find that reality fans freeze them out. Whether they’re canceled temporarily or forever typically depends on the severity of their offenses. In this case, the moral transgressions were serious. Some fans may find it in themselves to forgive, while others will just try to forget that these Below Deck Down Under cast members ever existed.

Laura needs to use more than words to show that she’s changed. She needs to prove it with her actions. Perhaps she could commit to a more mature lifestyle, and do more things for others. Volunteering or charity work might help her to develop perspective and continue evolving. However, for the Below Deck Down Under celeb, the road to redemption may be long and rocky.
