Beavis & Butthead New Designs Reveal Characters As Middle-aged Adults

With the highly-anticipated return of Beavis and Butt-Head this year in the form of a movie, creator Mike Judge reveals images of a middle-aged version of the show’s beloved duo. The 90s series, starring Judge as the voice of the two featherbrained metalheads, pioneered the satirical analysis of pop culture in an animated format for young adults. Beavis and Butt-Head initially ran on MTV from 1993 to 1997, ending with eight seasons after being momentarily revived in 2011.

In the summer of 2020, Beavis and Butt-Head was granted to return to air two seasons by ViacomCBS’s Comedy Central. In addition to the reboot of the acclaimed show, Judge and Comedy Central also announced a new movie heading on Paramount+. The film will follow as a sequel to Paramount Pictures’ movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996. Alongside the return of the titular duo, the spin-off of MTV’s Daria, based on the character of Jodie Abigail Landon, is en route to Comedy Central.

In a recent tweet, Judge shared the concept images of the titular cartoon duo; both visualized as significantly aged-up from their teenage years. Contrary to the first animated teaser of the iconic duo back in February, where the head-banging duo announced their upcoming film in a Zoom conference, the concept art showcases an older imagined version of the pair. The images of the older Butt-Head show him sporting a receding hairline and a five o’clock shadow, bearing a rounder-shaped proportion. On the other side, Beavis is etched wearing glasses and carrying the same menacing grin as his younger counterpart. See Judge’s tweet below:

To this day, fans continue to reminisce about Beavis and Butt-Head’s beloved music video commentary and the vernacular language, including the amusing phrases from the fidgety alter-ego of BeavisAccording to Judge, Beavis and Butt-head will return this year with a brand new movie “and more” on the respective streaming platform, but there is yet to be an official date or any information regarding the storyline of the film. Although the initial teaser showed the teenage versions of the duo, the concept art shows otherwise, leading many to speculate the film’s timeline will be set much later. As more classics and characters created by Judge continue to be announced for a future reboot on Comedy Central, many fans have also been petitioning to revive other animated hits, such as King of the Hill.

With the return of the idiotic duo, many are curious to see how Beavis and Butt-Head will play into Generation Z, as the show carried a more nihilistic approach in the 90s that may not translate well into the modern age of media consumption and entertainment. Although there is minimal information in regards to the release and synopsis of the film, Judge has teased that there will be more to come in the future for the characters. Until then, fans can expect to see the return of Beavis and Butt-Head on Paramount+ soon this year.
