Beast Boy’s Toxically Positive New Persona Will End in Disaster for the Titans – Theory Explained

WARNING: Potential Spoilers for Titans #10 Beast Boy has consistently been one of the most optimistic and positive members of the Titans. However, following the events of Beast World and Gar’s unintentional contribution to the crisis, the Titan understandably fell into a depressive state as the world turned against him. Now, Beast Boy has returned to his overly positive self. However, this is far from a positive development. In fact, it could lead to disaster among the Titans.

Titans Debuts Raven’s Most Terrifying Power, Taking Her Empath Abilities Too Far

Raven’s evil doppelganger has revealed the extremely dark and overpowered extent of Raven’s empath abilities by violating one core Titans member.

Tom Taylor, Lucas Meyer, and Adriano Lucas’ Titans #10 seamlessly continues from the cliffhanger of issue #9, where the Dark-Winged Queen, posing as the true Raven, manipulates Beast Boy’s psyche by forcibly removing his negative emotions without his consent.

Titans #9 featuring evil Raven mindwiping beast boy

In this latest installment, Beast Boy is depicted soaring high—both literally and metaphorically—in sharp contrast to his previous depressive state following the Beast World crisis. However, this sudden change in demeanor has not escaped notice, though the Titans may not realize the threat that this “new” Beast Boy poses.

Beast Boy’s Lack of Negative Emotions Is a Recipe For Disaster (And Death)

Teen Titans #10 featuring Tucan Beast Boy and Cyborg

In Titans #10, Beast Boy is seen joyfully flying around Titans Tower, maintaining an excessively positive outlook despite facing protesters who boo and hurl insults at him. Previously, such reactions from civilians would have filled Beast Boy with shame and guilt, prompting him to retreat to the confines of the tower. Cyborg confronts Garfield about his abrupt change in demeanor, suspicious of the sudden transformation given how distraught his friend was less than 24 hours earlier. Hence, this scene reveals the effects of Raven’s emotional mind-wipe thus far, indicating that Beast Boy no longer experiences negative emotions.

Raven’s removal of Beast Boy’s negative emotions is likely to have serious implications, as these emotions play a crucial role in properly processing internal and external stimuli, decision-making, self-awareness, and many other important aspects that undoubtedly affect Beast Boy’s heroic exploits. With distorted stimuli processing and decision-making, Beast Boy could potentially put himself and the Titans in danger, leading to major injuries and possibly even casualties among the civilians they are supposed to protect and among the team members themselves. Therefore, Gar not being able to properly feel his emotions poses a significant threat to the Titans.

Starfire May Be the Titans’ Best Hope of Undoing Raven’s Damage to Beast Boy’s Emotional Psyche

Titans #10 featuring Starfire and Raven

However, there may be hope for the Titans yet, considering Starfire has noticed Beast Boy’s drastic change in demeanor and has also identified Raven as the culprit behind this change. Admittedly, Starfire has yet to realize that this Dark Raven is not who she is pretending to be, but Kori is on the right track to unraveling the Dark-Winged Queen’s plans. At the very least, Kori may be able to convince Nightwing to bench Beast Boy until they are able to correct his emotional processing. If such preventive action is taken, Beast Boy’s threat to the Titans will decrease significantly.
