Batwoman Recast: What Jade Tailor Could Look Like As Kate Kane

New Batwoman fan art imagines what The Magicians’ Jade Tailor would look like as Gotham City’s female vigilante. The CW’s Arrowverse introduced Kate Kane/Batwoman in the 2018 Elseworlds crossover, where she was played by Ruby Rose. Then, in fall 2019, Rose went on to star in the solo Batwoman series and even appeared in that season’s massive Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Season 1 of Batwoman came to an end just last week, but fans only had days to wrap their heads around the finale’s major twists before a bigger shocker arrived: Rose is leaving Batwoman, and The CW is recasting her role.

Needless to say, this came as quite the surprise for fans who expected Rose to be in it for the long run. However, reports soon emerged saying on-set tension and Rose’s dissatisfaction with television work led to her departure. Additionally, the initial news made it seem as though it was entirely Rose’s decision, but the newer reports suggested that wasn’t the case. Nevertheless, Rose will no longer be a part of the Arrowverse, and while that is disappointing for some, producer Marc Guggenheim thinks it will be a great creative opportunity.

Since Rose’s Batwoman exit was announced, a couple of actresses have put themselves forward as possible contenders for her role. The latest was Tailor, who played Kady Orloff-Diaz for all five seasons of Syfy’s The Magicians. Not long after, she gained some supporters on social media, including graphic artist Apexform. To demonstrate, Apexform created a piece of art that shows what Tailor might look like as the character. You can see it for yourself in the space below.

The other major contender is Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz, who shared her interest in the role on social media and received some fan art of her own. It might be too soon to declare either of these actresses as serious possibilities for Kate, though both have gotten thumbs-up from some fans. The CW hasn’t mentioned any actresses who are being considered for the role, though they did stress that they are looking for an LGBTQ actress to play Kate, who came out as a lesbian during Batwoman’s first season.

With Batwoman delayed until 2021 along with the other Arrowverse shows, there is still plenty of time to recast the character. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is likely making things difficult, but it’s probably safe to say that The CW is starting the casting process now. Fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of their newest Batwoman, so hopefully they won’t have to wait too long.

Batwoman season 2 will premiere on The CW in 2021.
