Battlefront 2 Modders Are Busy Making The Game EA Should’ve Finished

With EA no longer supporting Star Wars Battlefront 2, the modding community has picked up the slack to make the game what it should’ve been. Some of the mods the community has been creating are so well done that they look like they could be official DLC. Battlefront 2 became a great game after DICE released multiple DLC packs in 2018 and 2019, but there was plenty more to be added by the time EA shuttered development on it in the lead-up to Battlefield 2042. Modders are showing the potential EA left on the table by shifting DICE’s focus to Battlefield.

EA released its final update for Battlefront 2 months before the release of new seasons of The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian. Other TV offerings on Disney+ have since emerged with The Bad Batch, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. All these new additions to the Star Wars canon provided a ton of material that could’ve made great add-ons to Star Wars Battlefront 2. Thankfully, modders have stepped up to the plate to make this a reality, and these new mods show what could’ve been had EA’s support not been yanked away.

On sites like Nexus Mods and Mod DB, Battlefront 2 modders have been making new playable heroes that DICE had reportedly planned to introduce but was unable to, like Ahsoka Tano, Padme Amidala, and Asajj Ventress. Other mods add some of Star Wars‘ famous prequel era Jedi, like Plo Koon and Kit Fisto. Adding these characters fleshes out the Clone Wars era and makes it more interesting to play. Din Djarin is another character that modders have brought into Battlefront 2. The Mandalorian being playable alongside characters like Boba Fett, especially with the mod that gives him his Book of Boba Fett appearance, makes the need for a dedicated playable New Republic era apparent.

The modding community has also added characters from the Legends continuity and other eras in the Star Wars timeline, such as Starkiller and Rahm Kota from The Force Unleashed. Some mods add playable characters from the Knights of the Old Republic games, like Darth Revan and Darth Nihlus. The option to pit characters like this against the likes of those from the official game gives players a peek at what kind of game EA should have made with Battlefront 2: a sandbox to re-enact or experience epic moments from the movies, as well as a way to create scenarios and battles that players could only dream of.

The freedom to have clone troopers fight the Sith army of the Old Republic era would be a fantastic addition to a game like Star Wars Battlefront 2. It’s a shame the game isn’t officially supported anymore, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility of these features appearing in Battlefront 3 should it ever be developed.
