Batman V Superman: Gal Gadot Describes Trying On Wonder Woman Costume

As Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice draws ever closer to finally hitting movie screens worldwide, much of the discussion surrounding the film has centered on questions about its box-office prospects, whether or not Hollywood can support two separate superhero “cinematic universes” and the controversy of its dark reimagining of the DC superheroes. So it’s easy to forget that it was less than a year ago that much of the most heated back and forth among fans concerned Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman costume, with many at the time opining that it diverged too drastically from the iconic uniform of the comics while (less wholesomely) others voiced disappointment with Gadot’s figure.

On a recent promotional visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live (see above), Gadot opened up what it was like to both wear the Amazon superheroine’s outfit – both during Batman V Superman and on the ongoing production for the Wonder Woman solo movie scheduled for 2017. She also touched upon having to endure the overly-precise physical criticisms of some fans after she was cast as Diana Prince in the DC Extended Universe.

Early in the interview, Kimmel (who is among a select number of entertainment professionals and press members who have already screened the film – which remains under review embargo until next week) segued from a humorous callback to his (fictional) deleted scene from Batman V Superman to talk about fans’ reaction to the new Wonder Woman outfit; seemingly in reference to the change in color-scheme and other aesthetic elements, explaining that he understands how seriously “comic book nerds” can take such things because he is one – but before he could continue the question, the glamorous actress cut him off to interject: “Really!? What do think about my breasts?”

Once both the host and guest had regained their composure from the awkward laughter that (understandably) followed, Gadot went on to explain:

“I thought you were leading to the fact that a lot of the comic… the fans – had a lot to say about my breasts.”

After responding “What’s wrong with these guys?”, Kimmel went on to explain that he had intended to ask about the costume eschewing the bolder red, blue and gold version more familiar to fans of the comic and the 1970s Linda Carter series, calling it “hard to get used to.” Interjecting once again, Gadot explained that wearing the outfit was significantly more difficult to get used to:

“Two days after they announced that I’m going to do the part, they brought me into Michigan to try on the costume. And I walked into this huge hangar with images of me as Wonder Woman – which was surreal – and then they got me into the fitting room and tried on the costume. And I was so happy and so grateful and thankful for being there and doing this role… that I didn’t say anything about the fact that it was so tight that I – literally – could not breathe.”

The problem of the costume’s inadequate sizing was eventually solved, though as it turns out the now in-production shooting of the solo Wonder Woman spin-off feature came with problems of its own: Namely, having to perform in the highly revealing Amazon armor – which leaves the wearer’s legs, arms, upper-chest, head and back exposed to the elements – in the frigid cold of an English Winter. After all, Gadot originally hails from Israel, a significantly warmer climate than either Michigan or England.
