Batman & Spider-Gwen Cosplay Is the Team-Up You Didn’t Know You Wanted

A crossover between Spider-Gwen and Batman is not one that anyone asked for, but it’s one that now we’re dying to see thanks to an incredible new cosplay. The worlds of DC Comics and Marvel have crossed over with each other a handful of times. Oftentimes, the cross-promotional team-ups are made up of no-brainer dream pairings, like Batman and Daredevil for example, but there are also match-ups out there that are completely random on paper, but also sound unexpectedly thrilling to witness.

The Batman and Spider-Gwen cosplay posted on Reddit by photographer renoleephoto would fall under such pairings. The custom-made art stars cosplayers Batmaninseattle as the Dark Knight and Kylorenclub as Spider-Gwen. The work is remarkably simple, with the two heroes standing side by side with their arms crossed. The posing of their mannerisms alone highlights just how different they are as characters, but it is their apparent differences that hint at what could be an exciting, compelling crossover.

The Potential Dynamic of Batman Meeting Spider-Gwen

What is also interesting is that the version of Batman depicted in the artwork is the one played by Michael Keaton in the two Tim Burton Batman films. The inclusion of this Batman, who will also appear in the upcoming The Flash movie dealing with alternate universes, is in keeping with the theme of the multiverse. This is not just because the DC and Marvel universes are colliding in this image, but because Spider-Gwen (aka Ghost Spider) herself is a product of the multiverse, growing in popularity thanks to the Spider-Verse comics and films. Additionally, in the comics, the recent Gwenverse event saw Spider-Gwen deal with her own personal multiverse event and now Gwen is currently dealing with her own Clone Saga.

What makes this cosplay artwork so notable is that it technically does not offer much in its simple execution, but it offers just enough to give audiences a weird sense of how their personalities would interact, and how fun it would be to see. On the surface, a story can never go wrong in depicting a stoic, serious hero alongside a cheekier, snarkier hero. That is essentially the exact dynamic that made watching Bruce Wayne mentor Terry McGinnis on Batman Beyond so fun.

That mentorship dynamic is another facet that would make a crossover between Spider-Gwen and Batman so interesting. The veteran legend watching over the spunky teenage hero who frustrates her mentor by not taking anything seriously. This makes for a fun dynamic in storytelling more often than not. While the idea of Batman meeting up with Spider-Gwen may not have immediately sprung to anyone’s mind in their wildest dreams before seeing this cosplay, it’s one with immense storytelling potential.
