Batman Gets New Logo And Doomsday-Level Threat In The DC Universe

Warning! Spoilers for Batman #125 by DC Comics

In his upcoming DC Comics adventures, Batman gets a new logo while taking on his own Doomsday-level threat as a new creative team takes over the hero’s ongoing series. In a brand new preview for Batman #125, writer Chip Zdarsky revealed his run alongside artist Jorge Jimenez will see a new threat (a villain potentially named Failsafe) enter the fray, who is killing billionaires and presenting the Dark Knight with a new kind of problem.

Batman has been put through the wringer in his current series at DC Comics. After taking down the Scarecrow in the recent Fear State arc where the villain nearly overtook Gotham City, Batman went up against Lex Luthor next, who tried to use his resources to takeover Batman Inc. and become his own version of the Dark Knight. Unfortunately, things aren’t about to get easier for the Caped Crusader. He’ll get a new logo and face a new villain described as a Doomsday-level threat who is killing billionaires, which should put him on a direct path with Batman and Bruce Wayne.

In a preview of Batman #125 by Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jimenez, and Tomeu Morey (H/T GamesRadar), the hero’s challenges new are discussed. Zdarsky revealed that a new villain (presumably named Failsafe) is Batman’s Doomsday. He wanted to create a character that challenged Batman “mentally, physically, and in terms of his relationships.” The debut issue from the new creative team will feature Batman having nightmares of a dark future while a villain wreaking havoc emerges in Gotham City. Check out the new logo for the series.

Check out a one-page preview of the issue, which sees the Dark Knight in action, as he turns his grappling hook into a weapon.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Zdarsky outright called Failsafe Batman’s Doomsday, as he admitted he was excited where he could take the title alongside Jimenez and Morey. Check out the synopsis for the issue below, which teases Batman’s upcoming nightmares and enemy.

Bruce Wayne is having nightmares of a future he can’t stop. But he may not make it to that future, as a startling enemy from Batman’s past has one relentless goal. To end, Batman no matter what it takes.

It’s still not entirely clear whether the Doomsday-level threat is an actual villain named Failsafe or just the arc’s name – although, Zdarksy’s comments seem to imply both. Still, Zdarsky, Jimenez, and Morey working together on a new arc of Batman is exciting, as the creative team will take the hero in a direction that will present new challenges for the Dark Knight. The new era and logo for Batman and the “Failsafe” arc begins when Batman #125 by DC Comics arrives in comic book stores and online retailers on July 5, 2022.
