When Bruce Wayne is murdered in DC’s Neo-Gotham timeline, Batman Beyond‘s Terry McGinnis will hunt down his mentor’s killers and bring them to justice. In a new preview for Batman: Urban Legends #7, the death of the original Batman on Earth-12 is one of the different stories teased in the comic anthology showcasing four future versions of Batman, including Batman One Million and Cassandra Cain.
Terry McGinnis became the Batman of the future in the iconic Batman Beyond animated series. In the show, the new Batman was mentored by an older Bruce Wayne, whose years protecting Gotham took such a physical toll on him, he retired. The success of Batman Beyond led to McGinnis being adapted to the comics, as he’s had his own ongoing comics, as well as numerous crossovers and one-shots that have further expanded the character in the DC Universe. Now, Batman Beyond is coming back in a story where he’s on the hunt for Bruce Wayne’s murderer.
DC Comics revealed solicits for Batman: Urban Legends #7 by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Max Dunbar, Sebastian Cheng, and Aditya Bidikar, as the new anthology comic will tell the story of four future versions of Batman including Terry McGinnis, Cassandra Cain, and Batman One Million. In the Batman Beyond focused tale, which sees the return of Terry McGinnis to DC Comics, the hero will venture into Neo-Gotham to find Bruce Wayne’s killer. McGinnis will discover Bruce’s body in the Batcave.
Batman: Urban Legends #7 also includes a story of Cassandra Cain’s Batman being hunted down herself by the oppressive Magistrate in DC’s dark future. Meanwhile, in the 853rd Century, Batman One Million, who oversees a prison on Pluto containing the most dangerous prisoners in the galaxy, will have to deal with a jailbreak. The comic anthology shining the spotlight on some fan-favorite versions of Batman is going to be a lot of fun. It’s a brilliant idea to feature multiple future versions of Batman in a single anthology. Batman Beyond is one of DC Comics’ coolest characters who is certainly worthy of the additional focus after his own ongoing series ended last year. Seeing him hunt down Bruce Wayne’s murderer is sure to be a heartbreaking and action-packed adventure that will show Terry McGinnis at his best as Batman.
