Barry Keoghan’s New Rotten Tomatoes Success Proves Saltburn Isn’t The Best Thing To Watch Him In Right Now

Barry Keoghan’s success on Rotten Tomatoes proves that Saltburn isn’t the only exciting project he’s been cast in recently. Since rising to prominence from his breakout performances in The Killing of a Scared Deer and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, which were both released in 2017, Keoghan has rapidly emerged as one of the greatest young actors in Hollywood. His masterful performance as the snakish Oliver Quick in Emerald Fennel’s Saltburn earned him a 2024 Golden Globe nominee and created a fair amount of buzz for the 2024 Oscars.

Keoghan, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his supporting role in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin, has already been in numerous notable works in his relatively short professional acting career. Keoghan briefly portrayed the Joker in 2022’s The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and has recently appeared in the newly released Top Boy season 5 as Jonny. Keoghan has been featured in many titles that are Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh, particularly a major new Apple series produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

Masters Of The Air’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Much Better Than Saltburn’s

Keoghan stars in the new Apple series Masters of the Air, created by Band of Brothers and The Pacific producers Spielberg, Hanks, and Gary Goetzman. After the first two episodes were released exclusively on Apple on January 26, 2024, the series received instant critical acclaim, soaring to a Rotten Tomatoes critical score of 83% right out of the gate. By comparison, Saltburn has amassed a Rotten Tomatoes score of 71%, indicating that Masters of the Air is Keoghan’s better overall project of the two.

The Rotten Tomatoes audience scores for Masters of the Air and Saltburn are quite different from their critical scores at 71% and 79%, respectively. This indicates that, according to audiences, Saltburn is the more enjoyable project in comparison to Masters of the Air. Based on the first two episodes, Masters of the Air noticeably has a much broader scope and better production than Saltburn but is likely facing backlash due to inevitable comparisons to Band of Brothers, which is considered one of the best television shows ever made.

Masters of the Air is an anomaly of a project considering the integrity of its spiritual predecessors Band of Brothers and The Pacific, as well as the high level of talent involved both in front of and behind the camera. It is quite a different project than Saltburn in just about every way, with Keoghan’s casting being one of the few similarities between them. Fans of Saltburn may not be as excited about Masters of the Air, but Keoghan’s supporters will appreciate seeing him in a role that is outside of his typical offbeat characters.
