Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Passes Huge Global Box Office Milestone

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has crossed a major worldwide box office milestone. The movie is based on the 2020 Hunger Games prequel novel by Suzanne Collins, following the future president of the dystopian nation of Panem, Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), as he becomes the mentor to a District 12 tribute named Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) who has been chosen to compete in the Hunger Games. Although the movie opened to $44.6 million, by far the lowest debut of the franchise, it has maintained impressively low week-on-week drops since its debut the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Per Variety, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes box office has continued to showcase a strong audience hold during its fifth weekend in theaters, taking No. 2 at the domestic box office while passing the $300 million milestone worldwide. This achievement means that it has passed the gross of the smash horror hit Five Nights at Freddy’s, which earned a total of $288.6 million. It is also now one of just 15 movies from 2023 to have crossed that particular milestone, including Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Fast X, Oppenheimer, and Barbie.
