Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Box Office Breaks Hunger Games Franchise Record In Week 2

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has broken a record for the franchise. The new release is a prequel to the Hunger Games movies, adapted from the 2020 novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. It stars Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow, the future President of the dystopian nation of Panem, and tracks his early years as a mentor for the 10th annual Hunger Games, where he trains and strikes up a relationship with District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler).

Per Deadline, the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes box office is projected to earn a 5-day Thanksgiving weekend domestic total of $41.1 million by the end of Sunday. This is more than enough to make it No. 1 for the weekend, but its 3-day Friday to Sunday total alone is $24.8 million, just a 44.4% drop from its opening weekend gross of $44.6 million. This makes it the smallest week 2 drop of the entire Hunger Games franchise.
