Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes Box Office Breaks Another Record (Despite Hunger Games’ Lowest Gross)

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has broken yet another box office record for the franchise, despite being its lowest-grossing entry. The prequel, based on Suzanne Collins’ young adult book of the same name, follows future Panem president Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) in his early years as a mentor to District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) during the 10th annual Hunger Games. The movie opened on the weekend before Thanksgiving with a total of $44.6 million, significantly lower than the previous lowest opening in the franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2‘s $102.7 million.

Per Deadline, the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes box office has grossed an additional $9.4 million during its fourth weekend at the domestic box office, bringing its cumulative total to $135.6 million. This is a small 33% drop from the previous weekend, showcasing the movie’s strong audience hold. In fact, despite the movie still maintaining its status as the lowest-grossing Hunger Games movie overall, it had the lowest week 4 drop out of all five movies in the franchise.
