Bad Sisters Season 2 Renewed By AppleTV+

Apple TV+ has renewed Bad Sisters for season 2. Based on the 2012 series Clan, and developed by the trio of Sharon Horgan, Dave Finkel, and Brett Baer, Bad Sisters made its debut in August. The Dublin-based story tracks Eva Garvey (Horgan), the eldest of five sisters, as she finds herself right in the middle of a life insurance investigation following the mysterious death of her brother-in-law John Paul (Claes Bang) An overzealous insurance agent, Thomas (Brian Gleeson), tries to prove that Eva and her sisters are somehow involved in the death. The show, which also stars Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, Eve Hewson, and Anne Marie-Duff, has garnered uniformly positive reviews.

Now, according to IndieWire, Apple TV+ has announced that it has renewed Bad Sisters for season 2. The news comes less than a month after the dark comedy debuted its season 1 finale. In a humorous statement, Horgan said in part: “If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him I’d have said; yeah, that sounds about right.” The humor has been key to the success of the series, with critics praising Bad Sisters for its ability to balance seemingly competing tones.

What To Expect From Bad Sisters Season 2

Over the course of its first installment, which consisted of 10 episodes, the dark comedy offered a window into its central group. And, by the time of its finale, Bad Sisters brought it all back to the beginning. The series returns to the bathing pool on the Irish coast where the Garvey sisters first decided to get rid of John Paul. In the beginning, Grace (Duff) doesn’t join the group due to her husband John Paul. But as the episodes conclude, she’s finally free of him. This essentially wraps up the show’s biggest driving force, with other mysteries resolved.

Horgan had said that she envisioned the project as a limited series. However, she also mentioned that she would be open to a continuation if the right idea came along. Bad Sisters season 2 could focus on the romance between Matt (Daryl McCormack) and Becka (Eve Hewson), which proved popular with audiences. That’s hardly a surprise since McCormack proved himself to be a compelling romcom lead opposite Emma Thompson in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.

Bad Sisters season 2 might also find the titular siblings involved in another murder investigation. So far, and perhaps in a bit of an underreported streak, given all the changes in the streaming landscape, Apple TV has been steadily emerging as a curator of quality with titles as diverse as the sports drama Swagger and the social commentary sci-fi Severance. It may not have the most impressive back catalog. But given its gradually growing reputation, not to mention Horgan’s track record, fans are likely in for a treat.
