Back To The Future 4 Trailer Edit Brings Back Original Stars & Casts Tom Holland As Jake McFly

A fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer brings back the original stars and casts Tom Holland in a new role. Written by Bob Gale and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the Back to the Future trilogy was released from 1985 to 1990, following the time-traveling adventures of high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), who builds the DeLorean time machine. Though the two sequels weren’t as highly regarded as the original, the trilogy has cultivated a dedicated fan following who have long advocated for a fourth Back to the Future film.

Now, KH Studio has created and shared a fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer on YouTube. Watch it below:

The trailer edit brings back the original stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as Marty McFly and Doc Brown, using footage from a LEGO Dimensions promo and the Netflix film See You Yesterday. The fan-made trailer also casts Tom Holland as Jake McFly, who is seemingly the son of Marty and Jennifer (Elizabeth Shue). The video description also contains a convincing fake synopsis for Back to the Future 4:

In “Back to the Future 4” Tom Holland takes on the role of a brilliant young inventor, Jake McFly, who stumbles upon Doc Brown’s long-lost journal. The journal contains secrets to enhance time travel capabilities, opening up new possibilities and unforeseen consequences. As Jake navigates through various timelines, he encounters both familiar faces and new challenges, all while trying to prevent a mysterious adversary from rewriting history.

It’s Good Back To The Future 4 Never Happened

While fan speculation over a possible Back to the Future 4 has never faded, it’s actually a good thing that a belated sequel hasn’t happened.

Will Back to the Future 4 Happen?

Given how beloved Back to the Future is, the possibility of a fourth film has been floating around for years. However, Back to the Future is one franchise that seemingly won’t be rebooted. In 2018, Robert Zemeckis said, “There will never ever be, in the most absolute way, a Back to the Future 4” and in the ensuing years, the director has remained adamantly against the idea. Similarly, the trilogy’s co-writer Bob Gale has shot down the idea of a fourth film. Instead, he believes Back to the Future: The Musical can provide the nostalgic experience fans are craving:

While the fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer imagines Michael J. Fox returning as Marty McFly, it’s unlikely he would do so. The actor officially retired in 2021 due to Parkinson’s disease, and it would be difficult to imagine anyone else playing his role. The fan-made trailer, however, does provide a serviceable blueprint for how the Back to the Future franchise could continue by shifting the focus to Jake McFly. In recent years, Hollywood has come to rely on nostalgic legacy sequels to classic movies, so the possibility of Back to the Future 4 can never be truly ruled out.
