Back 4 Blood’s Children of the Worm DLC: Everything You Should Know

Back 4 Blood’s Children of the Worm DLC: Everything You Should Know

Turtle Rock Studios’ zombie FPS Back 4 Blood has released its second DLC expansion, Children of the Worm, which includes a new Cleaner and campaign. The spiritual sequel to Left 4 Dead features both a co-op campaign and PVP mode. The intentionally simple story centers around a parasite which turns most of humanity into undead-style mutants called Ridden, and the survivors who fight to stop the infection.

Back 4 Blood‘s campaign mode uses a responsive level modification system called the “Game Director” which alters game elements in response to the players’ actions. It also features an assortment of player characters called “Cleaners” with unique abilities, as well as an extravagant customization system involving Back 4 Blood‘s stat-boosting player cards, weapons, and items. On top of the title’s vast array of useable elements, the game offers aesthetic collectibles like Cleaner and weapon skins, banners, and emblems.

Back 4 Blood‘s Children of the Worm adds an assortment of new features, and unlike the first expansion, Tunnels of Terror, it brings a whole new act to the campaign. It also includes a new Cleaner, new weapons and items, and over a dozen customization cards. This DLC’s additions impact both the Co-op story mode and the PVP mode called Swarm, which is a four-vs-four matchup pitting a team of Cleaners against four powerful Ridden.

Children of the Worm adds an entirely new act to the end of the campaign. The six-chapter story centers around the new Cleaner character, “Prophet” Dan, as he attempts to save his followers from a crazed cult, the “Children of the Worm”. Back 4 Blood‘s new campaign section adds a Duffel Bag item which provides an extra reward to players who manage to carry it to the end of a Mission.

This expansion’s newest Cleaner, “Prophet” Dan, is a self-proclaimed visionary available in both the campaign and PvP modes. Dan’s abilities make him an ideal support character in Back 4 Blood since they mostly come into play when the rest of his team is in trouble. Dan provides a random effect to his team when an ally is revived and increases his team’s damage and knockback resistances. Dan also has some impressive solo capabilities: his damage output is increased whenever a teammate is incapacitated.

Along with the new campaign and Cleaner, Back 4 Blood‘s new Children of the Worm expansion also includes a number of new enemies, weapons, cards, and more. These new cosmetic and gameplay additions should spice up the new missions for players, and can be carried over into the base Back 4 Blood campaign. Here’s everything else the DLC includes:

  • 4 new Back 4 Blood Ridden enemies in added campaign act
  • 14 new cards, including 11 player cards and never-before-seen Improvised Cards
  • New weapons: Lockjaw, bow, and Iron Claws
  • New items: bear trap, bait jar, and smoke grenade
  • 10 Cleaner skins and 12 weapon skins
  • New banners, sprays, emblems, achievements, and accomplishments
  • New weapons added to Firing Range

On top of the expansion’s major features, Children of the Worm brings an impressive assortment of customization options to the game. The update itself rebalances the campaign with dozens of tweaks and adds well over a dozen player cards to Swarm. Back 4 Blood‘s new DLC is automatically available in both the annual pass and premium editions.
