Bachelor: How Noah Supports Abigail’s Openness About Her Hearing Loss

Since Abigail Heringer and Noah Erb began their relationship on Bachelor in Paradise, Noah has been very supportive of his new girlfriend’s openness in regards to her hearing loss. Abigail first spoke about her hearing loss while competing on Matt James’ season of The Bachelor last year. She revealed that she was born with congenital hearing loss and had to undergo cochlear implantation surgery at the age of two. Both she and her older sister Rachel were born with the same disability and had received the same surgery.

Luckily, both Abigail and her sister’s implantations were successful. Now, the sisters can hear much better with the help of their cochlear implants. Even though Abigail, who got back together with Noah after BIP, knows she is so lucky to have these implants, they’ve made her feel insecure in the past. When she got the call to be on The Bachelor, she wasn’t sure how she would address her impairment given that the reality series hasn’t had much – if any at all – disability representation. Alas, the show has allowed Abigail to gain more confidence, especially with the help of her new beau Noah.

Noah has always supported Abigail and how open she has been about her hearing loss. During their time on Bachelor In Paradise together, Noah never made her feel insecure or uncomfortable about it. The 27-year-old loved Abigail for exactly who she is. Moreover, not once did she feel like her cochlear implants got in the way of his feelings for her. In fact, Abigail grew more confident following her time on the ABC reality series and her new relationship with Noah. The 26-year-old even shared a post to Instagram showing her followers what her implant looks like and how she feels so much more secure with herself after being open on television. Abigail revealed in the caption that she was nervous at first to talk about my hearing loss, especially on a show like The Bachelor.

She was afraid the audience would ridicule her hearing loss and feared it would be like the “countless awkward interactions” she had growing up. As a kid, Abigail, who played a role in the breakup between Dale and Clare, became used to trying to act normal. Usually, this meant undermining her hearing loss. She’d hide it from friends, first dates, and even her teachers. When it was time to go on The Bachelor, and she got a pep talk from her mother, Abigail realized that if she could help one person like herself, it was all worth it.

After sharing her post, Abigail received thousands of comments supporting her decision to be more open about her cochlear implants, including her boyfriend, Noah. He commented on her post, “A goddess.” Noah has always shown how grateful he is to have someone like Abigail as a partner and is proud of her for being more open about something she has struggled with for so long. Noah will always be supportive of Abigal and her openness about her cochlear implants. The Bachelor In Paradise stars have developed a relationship based on honesty, and Abigail’s recent post proves how much Noah supports his girlfriend.
