Queen Victoria Larson from Matt James’ season of The Bachelor is being criticized by the fans for throwing a big birthday party in Florida during the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s no denying that Victoria made a huge splash this week when Bachelor Nation first got to know her during the season 25 premiere episode. Instead of the traditional walking out of a limo, Victoria was brought to the front of the mansion in a palanquin that was carried by what are assumed to be The Bachelor production crew members. She then stepped out of it and made her way to meet Matt, all while wearing a crown.
Upon meeting The Bachelor lead Matt James, Victoria Larson was quick to let him know that she sees herself as a queen. Therefore, her potential soulmate would have to consider himself a king, at least in her eyes. To complement that sentiment, Victoria handed Matt his own royal crown, which he timidly placed on top of his head. She then walked into the mansion and informed her co-stars that she is a queen, which rubbed some of them the wrong way. For one, Kit Keenan said in her confessionals that if Victoria thinks that she is a queen, then Kit sees herself as the president, the CEO, and the king.
But royal titles aside, Bachelor Nation fans offered plenty of criticism to Queen Victoria for a completely different reason. On premiere night for The Bachelor season 25, Victoria Larson threw a birthday for herself and shared pictures of the event on her Instagram. Her actual birthday is January 7, but she threw a party on Monday, January 4 in order to also watch her appearance on The Bachelor with friends. The party seems to have included at least 10 guests. Victoria has since disabled comments on the post, but screenshots from last night’s comments (seen below) show that several fans were angry at this party being thrown in Florida as the number of COVID-19 cases keeps surging in the state. One follower said, “We love a queen who deletes comments referencing the pandemic our frontline is fighting under layers of PPE.” Victoria replied to that comment, “I don’t know what comments you are referring to… we all got covid teased before.” Another fan commented, “Time to remove the Queen title after throwing a party during a pandemic!” A follower added, “Covid must not exist there.” Later, a fan commented: “Ah yes I remember the peer reviewed article I read bout queens not getting covid.”
As seen in the screenshots included above, there were several comments – which were liked by many other followers – criticizing The Bachelor star for throwing what is considered a big party in a state that has an ever-growing number of COVID-19 cases. Victoria Larson did edit the post to include a PSA in the caption and did respond to one of the comments, but she ultimately decided to just disable all of the comments and keep the post up on her Instagram page.
The jury is still out on how far “Queen” Victoria Larson will go on the show. As for Bachelor Nation, the fandom is still divided on whether they are loving this contestant or feeling annoyed by her.
