This summer, Earth’s vampires make the move they have been waiting centuries for: an all-out invasion. Superstar artist Gabriele Dell’Otto has created a series of connecting covers for the event that depict a giant battle between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the undead.

Marvel shared a first look at Dell’Otto’s series of covers for Blood Hunt in a post on their website. Stretching across all five issues of the miniseries, Dell’Otto’s cover shows the Avengers, including Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Thor, fighting for their lives against the Bloodcoven, a new team of super-powered vampires. Dell’Otto’s covers are epic, fully showing what is at stake in Blood Hunt.

Marvel’s Vampires Are About to Step Out of the Shadows

Blood Hunt Will Redefine the Undead in the Marvel Universe

Dracula’s first appearance in 1972’s Tomb of Dracula #1 introduced vampires to the Marvel Universe, and they have been an integral component of it since. In recent years, Earth’s vampires, inspired by the mutants on Krakoa, established their own nation, and managed to achieve recognition from the United Nations. Underneath the seemingly benign facade, the Vampire Nation is rotten to the core. Outside the Nation, Moon Knight has been facing an uptick in vampiric activity as well, as has Miles Morales. Blood Hunt will bring these various plotlines to a head.

Although vampires like Dracula have been stalking the Marvel Universe for decades, they have never achieved the recognition as a true threat, on par with the Skrulls or the Chitauri. Blood Hunt looks to change that. Blood Hunt will introduce the Bloodcoven to continuity. This group of vampires, who feed on nothing but the blood of superhumans, are a vampiric equivalent of the Avengers, at least in terms of power. In explaining the Bloodcoven, Blood Hunt writer Jed MacKay said “bigger guns were required” if the vampires were to go toe-to-toe with the Avengers.

And Gabriele Dell’Otto’s connecting covers for Blood Hunt showcase the Bloodcoven in all their vampiric glory. Although the cover does not identify any members of the Bloodcoven, each one is holding their own against a member of the Avengers. Some of the team’s biggest guns, including Thor and Captain Marvel, are fighting for dear life against a horde of the undead. Marvel is taking great lengths to establish vampires, and the Bloodcoven in particular, as major players, and Dell’Otto’s cover for Blood Hunt shows what the Avengers are up against.
