Avengers’ Hawkeye & Ant-Man Get Hilariously Perfect Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse Redesign

Avengers’ Hawkeye & Ant-Man Get Hilariously Perfect Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse Redesign

Sorry, Jeremy Renner and Paul Rudd, but Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck have stepped into the roles of Hawkeye and Ant-Man in a brilliant recreation of a classic The Avengers comic cover. This delightful mashup of characters is brought to life by Disney’s What If…? variant covers, set to grace select issues of upcoming Amazing Spider-Man releases in celebration of 60 years of the Avengers and X-Men.

On September 11, 2024, fans can grab their very own copy of Claudio Sciarrone’s variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #57, starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. This Disney-inspired rendition pays homage to the classic Hawkeye and Ant-Man cover art from The Avengers #223 (1982) by David Michelinie, Greg LaRocque, Brett Breeding, Joe Rubinstein, and Christie Scheele.

In the original, Hawkeye is depicted with his bow drawn, but replacing the typical arrow is Ant-Man, primed and ready to fly. Sciarrone’s recreation of this cover retains the core elements, making it recognizable while adding a much-welcomed Disney twist.

Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck Recreate Iconic Hawkeye and Ant-Man Cover Art

Hawkeye and Ant-Man cover

Sciarrone’s variant cover showcases Mickey Mouse sporting the iconic purple and blue attire of Hawkeye as seen on the cover of The Avengers #223, complete with the hero’s signature arrow-filled quiver and bow. Similarly, Donald Duck adopts Ant-Man’s red and blue costume along with his classic silver helmet. Sciarrone’s art also excellently replicates the classic print of the original cover by featuring the iconic tagline, “When Ant-Man and Hawkeye join forces… Somebody’s gonna get it!However, there is one notable and amusing departure from the original artwork in Sciarrone’s rendition.

Although Mickey wears a serious expression akin to Hawkeye’s demeanor on the original cover, Donald Duck offers a stark contrast as the opposite of the calm and composed Ant-Man. While Ant-Man seems ready to be launched like a human arrow, Donald appears less than enthusiastic about the idea. True to his dramatic nature, the iconic duck is depicted screaming as Mickey prepares to send him flying. This departure from the original cover adds an extra layer of whimsy and fun, cleverly showcasing Donald Duck’s unique personality.
