Avatar: The Last Airbender Draws New Korra Image For New Graphic Novel

Lately, it seems that fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra have been blessed with a fountain of new news and merch, despite the original series ending over fifteen years ago. The new info doesn’t stop as it appears one of the series co-creators has let it slip that he is working on a brand new Korra comic with Dark Horse through a sketch on his Instagram. That’s right, Bryan Konietzko is working on the cover for a brand new Legend of Korra story!

For those unaware, both the adventures of Aang and Korra have been continued on off the screen in the form of some really fantastic and well done comic books. Each series follows their respective Avatar as they pick up the adventure directly where each of the shows left off, basically providing some extra seasons and finally resolving some unanswered questions left by the shows, even the mystery of Zuko’s mother. These comics give fans the chance to explore the characters and world that much deeper, sneaking in things sure to make fans chuckle such as Uncle Iroh’s first decree as temporary Fire Lord or deeper revelations such as the origins of Zuko’s Blue Spirit Mask that give even more heart to the original animated series. The comics have even grown to expand beyond just the Avatars themselves to give the spotlight over to some fan-favorite supporting characters. In fact, a comic focused on everyone’s favorite Kyoshi Warrior, Suki, is releasing just around the corner. Basically, if you’re a fan of either Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra, there is absolutely no excuse to be missing out on these sweet stories about your favorite characters.

The news of Konietzko working directly on the cover for the upcoming Korra book comes straight from the man himself. A post on his Instagram shows a brand new sketch of Korra that he has been working on. The sketch shows her rocking her traditional water tribe garb, but the entire winter weather version, covered head to toe in warm arctic gear. This implies the setting of the comic to be a cold, winterous one, leading many to speculate that she will either be returning home or visiting the other water tribe located on the opposite pole. It’s not the sketch itself that leaked the information, however, but actually the image’s caption. The image is captioned as “Sneak peek of a process detail of a book cover I’m doing for @darkhorsecomics ✨💙✨ #korra,” which clearly gives away the fact that a new book is on its way. When it will release and what will be about exactly is still a bit of a mystery, but just the simple fact that something is on its way is very big news.

Never read a single Legend of Korra comic before and unsure where to start off? Want to get caught up on Korra and crew before this new book releases? Don’t fret, this guide right here will break down exactly where to start, helping one set off on their continued Korra journey. There is no better time to start as it seems the latest book is still in its early developmental stages, meaning there is plenty of time to get caught up beforehand.

Korra In The Avatar State

Now for those that are already all caught up on the series but are curious about some of the previously mentioned new merch that has been recently released, there is a load of new goodies for any type of fan. For those that are looking for a Korra fix specifically, a brand new edition of The Legend of Korra: Art of the Animated Series Book One has released, and features really cool insights into the creation of the series as well as a brand new cover. Korra wasn’t the only one to get this treatment, as another edition of Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Art Of The Animated Series has also been released, providing commentary into the series that started it all. Need something to help store all these fantastic Avatar books? Well look no further, Dark Horse Comics has released new Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra limited edition bookends, and they are epic. New books, new stories, new art, new collectibles, and even new insights into the creation of the series itself; what more new stuff could a hardcore Avatar fan really ask for? (*cough* maybe a new animated series about a new Avatar *cough*) It is definitely a really great time to be an Avatar fan.

All of this new stuff comes as a bit of a relief to fans, who just a few months ago learned that the much anticipated live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender being put together by Netflix might not quite live up to its initial hype. When first announced, fans were extremely excited to hear that both of the original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, were on board and working closely with the production. With the disaster that was M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action movie adaptation, hearing that the original series creators were stepping in on this new adaptation was a saving grace, and honestly the only real reason any fans really cared to give it a shot. Sadly, it seems that both creators have dropped off the Netflix project, and their reasoning of creative differences is that much more frightening. With such disheartening news about something that had fans so so excited, it is nice to know that the original creators still at least are involved with the continued adventures of their characters on the page.

As more info about the new Korra comic is revealed, we will be sure to stay on top of it, so be sure to check back here for updates. A new The Legend of Korra story is insanely exciting news, and hopefully, more info about it comes soon.
