Autopsy Simulator Sounds Like The Perfect Game For True Crime Fans

Team 17 revealed new details for its upcoming Steam game Autopsy Simulator as part of the June 11th Future Games Show. The creepy trailer explores the dissecting room in which the game will take place, alongside glimpses of some of the murder victims players will be examining. The dark and gritty tone of the game is perfect for fans of horror elements and puts a creepy twist on the simulation genre.

Publisher Team 17 showcased a range of current and upcoming titles at GamesRadar’s Future Games Show. Over the course of the livestream, Team 17 had both a montage and a series of trailers covering a wide range of genres that include the upcoming action-RPG Thymesia, the dystopian point-and-click adventure Sunday Gold, the railway-centric city builder Sweet Transit, and the eerie trailer for the previously announced Autopsy Simulator.

As shown on Team 17’s YouTube channel, the Autopsy Simulator trailer immediately caught the attention of true crime fans. Although the trailer itself doesn’t reveal too many details, it does tease glimpses of the autopsy room and many of the major mechanics. The trailer also showcases the title’s wider story and dark tone. Further information was offered in a press release, confirming Autopsy Simulator would combine a gripping story with what has been described as “realistic autopsy procedures“. The sim game doesn’t appear to be for the faint of heart or those with weak stomachs, as Team 17 promises it will feature “gruesome graphics and procedures” that have been vetted and written by a certified and experienced pathologist.

Similar to the setup of other realistic sims like Cooking SimulatorAutopsy Simulator will feature a free play ‘Autopsy Only’ mode, as well as a campaign mode called Autopsy Simulator: Dead Memories. The campaign is due to be a self-contained, narrative-driven psychological horror experience set in 1990s New Orleans, following a middle-aged pathologist whose life has taken a downward turn. The pathologist becomes obsessed with solving an overarching mystery upon finding a relic from their past inside a body during a routine examination.

Whether unraveling the psychological horror narrative or just exploring a range of different standalone cases to determine the cause of death in free-play mode, the attention to detail Autopsy Simulator will likely be a great pick for true crime fans. Fortunately, those interested in the game won’t have to wait long to start playing, as the Future Games Show trailer confirmed that Autopsy Simulator is set for a November 2022 release.
