Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Discovery Tour Is Now a Standalone Game

Developer Ubisoft has released the educational Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Discovery Tour: Viking Age mode as a standalone title with free curriculum guides for teachers. The latest installment in the historical sci-fi franchise casts players as Eivor, a Viking warrior who leads their people on a brutal expansion into the British Isles. The Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Discovery Tour released last year as an additional game mode, but now gamers and educators alike can purchase the tour separately.

First introduced in 2017’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins, the Discovery Tour mode removes combat to focus entirely on immersing players in each game’s historical setting. These guided tours are an interactive way to teach players about Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and the Viking Age by experiencing lessons about both iconic historical figures and mundane everyday life. Discovery Tour: Viking Age is available as a free update for those who own Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and it became available as a standalone PC title last year. While other platforms were initially left out, the Discovery Tour: Viking Age mode can now be purchased separately on consoles and Google Stadia too.

Today Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Discovery Tour: Viking Age mode is now available as a standalone title on Google Stadia alongside PlayStation and Xbox consoles. This means that any gamer interested in historical immersion and education can now purchase the Discovery Tour mode separately from Valhalla itself. Ubisoft is also partnering with McGill University in Quebec to develop free curriculum guides to help gamers, teachers and students make the most of Discovery Tour: Viking Age. Following this release, every Discovery Tour installment is available as a standalone experience across PC, Stadia and consoles.

Alongside the Discovery Tour modes for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Origins, an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Discovery Tour lets gamers explore the vast and fascinating world of Ancient Greece. The virtual museum lets players embark on guided tours that demonstrate concepts like democracy in Athens, the life of a Greek woman and the Spartan education system. Numerous Discovery Sites, like the Hephaistos Islands and the region of Megaris, also give players a much clearer and more authentic picture of life in Ancient Greece. The Discovery Tour also includes various quizzes that players can take to test their knowledge and comprehension after each guided tour.

The Discovery Tour mode was an innovative and impactful addition to the most recent trilogy of Assassin’s Creed games. These titles largely abandoned the extensive database system of earlier installments, but Discovery Tour easily makes up for this absence by immersing players in various ancient societies and providing valuable educational materials. Those interested in Discovery Tour: Viking Age can now purchase it separately from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on all platforms.
