Assassin’s Creed Can Bring Back Three Protagonists In One Game

Assassin’s Creed Can Bring Back Three Protagonists In One Game

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has left three protagonists without a definitive send-off, but thankfully all three characters could return in a single game. Since 2007, Ubisoft’s open-world sci-fi franchise has explored time periods ranging from Ancient Greece in the 400s BCE to 1860s Victorian London. While the franchise has covered a massive range, a few games also explored a shorter time period in the 1700s. By taking advantage of an Assassin’s Creed 3 connection to Unity and Rogue, Ubisoft could tie up three loose ends with a single strike.

Following a trilogy of games following the exploits of Italian nobleman Ezio Auditore, Assassin’s Creed 3 introduced players to a new Native American protagonist named Ratonhnaké:ton. The son of a Templar named Haytham Kenway, Ratonhnaké:ton adopts the name Connor and becomes entangled in the American Revolution after joining the Assassin Brotherhood. Torn between loyalty to his Mohawk people and loyalty to the revolution, Connor eventually kills his father in combat and helps the revolutionaries achieve victory. However, despite the revolution’s success, the victory is hollow for Connor, who abandoned his people and lost his family through the journey. Assassin’s Creed 3’s Connor Kenway is regarded as one of the series’ most complex heroes, and he deserves a proper end to his somber story.

Released simultaneously in November 2014, Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Unity tell two distinct yet interconnected stories. Taking place years before Assassin’s Creed 3, Rogue tells the tale of an Assassin named Shay Patrick Cormac who betrays the Brotherhood and joins the Templar Order following a traumatic mission. After his induction into the secretive organization, Shay is mentored by Connor’s father, Haytham, with the two men forming a strong bond. Shay’s Templar career eventually leads him to eliminate an Assassin named Charles Dorian. This ending leads directly into Assassin’s Creed Unity, which sees players control Charles’ son Arno Dorian as he navigates the French Revolution. This interconnected story of Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Unity never comes full circle, however, since Arno never confronts Shay to avenge his father.

New Assassin’s Creed Game Could Give Connor, Arno, & Shay A Proper Send-off

By taking advantage of the connections between the three characters, a single Assassin’s Creed title could easily wrap up the stories of Connor, Arno and Shay. Arno hunting down and confronting Shay for his father’s murder seems like a major loose end that would help give the Assassin closure. As a fellow revolutionary and the son of Shay’s mentor Haytham, Connor would be a logical ally for Arno to seek out during this pursuit. This adventure could give closure to both Connor and Arno, with players switching between the two characters as they journey to wrap up their fathers’ loose ends. Taking place after the story of Assassin’s Creed Unity, the game could potentially tie into historical events of the period like the Napoleonic Wars or the War of 1812.

The Assassin’s Creed series never gave Connor, Arno, or Shay a proper send-off, but luckily a single game could wrap up all three stories. Connor and Arno hunting down the aging Templar could make a fascinating story, with the two Assassins clashing and growing from each other throughout the journey. The turbulent time period of the early 1800s is also rife with historical events that could serve as a fitting backdrop for this epic Assassin’s Creed team-up.
