After the release of the Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer, Ubisoft has boasted that the franchise is returning to its roots with Valhalla’s master assassin, Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq. As one of the most prolific game series centered around history, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles have huge shoes to fill.
With so many places to adventure, especially with the added DLC content, gamers can assume the Mirage’s DLC will be as fulfilling as past DLC has been. Fan-favorites such as Freedom Cry and The Da Vinci Disappearance expanded on lore while featuring elaborate characters from the past. So which are among Reddit’s favorite Assassin’s Creed DLCs?
The Fate of Atlantis – Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
The Fate of Atlantis is a three-part story arc that was an expansion pack for Odyssey and is the best of the DLC for the game. The add-on gave players the chance to battle creatures from Greek mythology as they strive to solve the mystery of the underwater city of Atlantis.
Though many Reddit users found It lackluster due to the repetition that came along with it, the amount of content included in the pack was quite impressive. Redditor dengZo9 played devil’s advocate in the discussion, saying they enjoyed, “The callbacks, the location, the characters, the gameplay additions… the second act especially had such atmosphere… Bleak, dreary and hopeless but in a good way…”
The Tyranny of King Washington – Assassin’s Creed III
Veering away from the usual historical accuracy of previous games in the franchise, The Tyranny of King Washington DLC take place in an adjunct timeline, presented through a joint vision between Connor and George Washington.
The concept of this vision rapidly altering the timeline of early history in the United States made for a fun experience that won players over. User FallenSegull, “Liked Tyranny of King Washington. No idea how Connor’s mother was still alive when George Washington got the Apple after the events of her death, but it was still fun.”
Wrath Of The Druids – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Concentrating on the strange Gaelic group that are the Druids, which were ancient Irish people. The DLC takes place in a pre-modern United Kingdom and shows off Ireland to the player with its chiseled mountain landscapes and rich greenery.
Arkadii and many other players agree that, “Wrath of the Druids is held back by some repetitive game design, but is otherwise a perfect expansion. Great core conflicts and some great characters…so many new armors, weapons and ship stuff to unlock.” Valhalla already has some of the best side quests in the series, and Wrath of the Druids explores a new group in the Children of Danu, introducing even more lore.
Dead Kings – Assassin’s Creed: Unity
Set during the French Revolution, Unity throws players into the ever-changing age with the use of the rivalry between the Templars and the Assassins that backlights the historical plot.
User sonfoa claimed, “It’s honestly amazing how this story was leagues better than the main story. They even made me like Arno, who had become a bit unbearable in the main game. Franciade is also beautiful.” The distinct areas of Dead Kings stick with the player long after their playthrough and exhibits Arno protecting the tombs of royalty from robbers and the like.
The Hidden Ones – Assassin’s Creed Origins
A return to the form of older Assassin’s Creed games, Origins focused the location of Ptolemaic Egypt that depicts the development of the past assassins in a fresh and sincere way. The Hidden Ones DLC sends Bayek to the Sinai Peninsula to expand lore and highlight the history during the formation of the Hidden Ones, aka an almost ancient Assassin Brotherhood.
Bayek becomes engulfed in conflict with the Romans and is even crucified by them, another historical element added to the game with the DLC. Redditor ldboy1990 states that, “The Hidden Ones gives us a look into why the tenants needed to be made at all considering how blatantly open these guys were that they almost destroyed their organization.”
Jack The Ripper – Assassin’s Creed Syndicate
A popular killer among both TV and film, Jack the Ripper has even had the spotlight in gaming, specifically in Syndicate’s DLC. With the rather unexpected narrative of the industrial revolution being showcased in the game, fans wouldn’t have guessed what Ubisoft had up their sleeve.
Written into the plot as a lone assassin instead of a serial killer, Syndicate’s female protagonist Evie Fyre faces off against Jack the Ripper in an outstanding story of vengeance and ancestry. Fans like bignate656 say they “really liked the atmosphere,” adding that they “felt like an actual civilian living in 1880s London at the height of the Jack the Ripper murders, scared when Jack would strike next.”
The Curse Of The Pharaohs – Assassin’s Creed Origins
Just like The Hidden Ones, The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC takes place in Ptolemaic Egypt, which usually calls for a lack of monuments and pharaohs, but there is an excess of them in this Origins add-on.
Journeying to the Valley of the Kings, Bayek meets royalty like Tutankamen and Akhenaten, seeing visions of Gods as he takes down powerful mythical creatures. In order to save the painter, the player wanders through the dangerous catacombs and uncovers cryptic clues to save Leonardo. User sonfoa admits that the DLC is a “really great story with Leonardo as well as the hint of the location of the Grand Temple. … We see Ezio’s growth as he doesn’t pursue answers but has resigned himself to being ‘The Prophet.'”
Battle of Forli – Assassin’s Creed II
Assassin’s Creed II’s DLC, The Battle of Forli, features Ezio’s allyship with Caterina Sforza and Machiavelli as they fight the Orsi Brothers. Since the game is already considered one of the best in Assassin’s Creed history, the expansion acted as an extra reward for loyal fans.
The add-on reveals corrupted memory sequences of the Animus and includes six new missions. Though there are many reasons to enjoy it, NatiHanson “liked Battle Of Forli for the simple fact I could use Da Vinci’s flying machine again.” Using the apparatus, players could flay high over Forli and get an amazing view of the landscape, weather permitting.
Freedom Cry – Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
Freedom Cry was released as a DLC in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that saw the player in the role of Adéwalé, a supporting character in the game. Venturing through Saint-Domingue, a French colony, the former slave utilizes unique weaponry to take down his foes.
The DLC’s dark tone of racial inequality only further drives home its profoundness. As Toddler_T commented, the game had an “Amazing standalone soundtrack. Fantastic acting and story and a cool new weapon and character.” Despite Freedom Cry being short in length, Redditor VTorb swears that the “machete and blunderbluss have got to be the most brutal weapon combos.
