Who Wins The Adventure Race In Arthur The King

Despite their best efforts, Team Broadrail doesn’t win the Adventure Race that takes up much of Arthur The King. Although Team Broadrail claims a commanding lead late in the race, Arthur’s attempts to stay with the team during a kayaking segment almost lead to the dog drowning. Team Broadrail gives up their lead to save Arthur. Instead, Decker Swanson (Rob Collins) and his team take the win. However, Team Broadrail’s decision to go back for Arthur quickly makes them a media sensation, helping Michael get the support he needs to bring Arthur home and get medical treatment.

Notably, Decker — who had spent much of the film needling Team Broadrail — admits that Team Broadrail would have won if it weren’t for their decision to go back for Arthur. Although Michael and his team don’t win the race, they still finish as one of the top teams in the competition. They are also seen as winners by the rest of the world, who quickly latch onto Arthur’s story and turn them into an international sensation. This sets up the final stretch of the film, which focuses more on Arthur’s final fate.

Arthur’s Fate At The End Of Arthur The King Explained

Arthur runs ahead of his adventure race team at the end of Arthur the King

By the end of Arthur The King, it’s revealed that Arthur has survived a lot of terrible injuries and infections throughout his life. Initially, the vets believe the proper course of action is to euthanize Arthur to end his suffering. However, Michael refuses to give up on the dog and — with some help from Decker and others — is able to rally enough support to get Arthur brought back to the United States. Even then, the trip itself almost drains Arthur of the last of his resolve.

Luckily, a series of operations are able to ensure the dog survives, and Arthur is accepted into Michael’s family. The film ends with Michael and Arthur going on a run together, highlighting Arthur’s recovery. It’s a sweet turn of events for the film, highlighting the movie’s underlining themes of persistence and resistance. Arthur’s survival is a major aspect of those themes in the film, as they force Michael to continue fighting in the face of defeat, something the film has underscored he has a great deal of experience with.

What Happens To The Rest Of Michael’s Team In Arthur The King’s Ending

The rest of Team Broadrail leave Arthur The King in a better place than where they began. Olivia (Nathalie Emmanuel), a gifted climber, initially joined to please her father. Himself a legendary climber, the revelation that Oliva’s father is dying adds another element to the films’ themes. In the end, Olivia makes her father proud and also learns to take pride in herself for her achievements. Leo (Simu Liu) starts the film more focused on his public image than the actual race. He’s also the most dismissive of Arthur initially, at least until the dog’s intervention saves his life.

Leo steadily overcomes his tensions with Michael, with the latter showcasing his growth by making sure Leo receives medical attention when he is afflicted with dehydration. The film ends with the pair on better terms. Chik (Ali Suliman) also gets the chance to prove himself. After having been removed from Decker’s team following a knee injury, Chik does his best to keep up with his new team. Despite mockery from Decker, the film ends with the two burying the hatchet. Similar to Michael and Arthur, each member of the main cast proves they have inner strength and overcomes their hangups.

How Arthur The King’s Ending Compares To The True Story

Arthur The King is based on true story. It’s directly remaking Mikael Lindnord’s 2016 memoir Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home. The book recounts the 2014 Adventure Racing World Championship in Ecuador. Mikael was a member of Team Peak Performance during the event and established the kind of relationship with the stray dog that Mark Wahlberg developed with Arthur in the 2024 film. The ending of Arthur The King is very similar to the real-life events that inspired the narrative.

Although there are some distinct differences, such as Mikael bringing Arthur to his home nation of Sweden instead of the United States, the broad strokes are very similar. Despite Arthur’s many injuries, a swell of public support was able to help get Arthur proper treatment — and following a four-month quarantine, Arthur was able to join Mikael’s family. Although Arthur The King plays up the drama and tension over whether Arthur will survive his various medical treatments, the film ends on a very similar positive note to the true story that inspired it.

The Real Meaning Of Arthur The King

Arthur The King Film 3

At its heart, Arthur The King is a film about perseverance and persistence. Michael’s efforts to prove to others (and himself) that he can still win the Adventure Race speaks to his resolve. In turn, though, his drive finds a more fitting focus when Arthur enters his life and forces him to reevaluate his priorities. Michael is able to not only prove his mettle and save the dog, but also reaffirm his connections with his teammates. Arthur The King is a fairly straightforward film but one with an endearingly emotional core, highlighting how even the toughest challenges aren’t impossible.

The film also highlights the importance of leaning on one another. Michael’s flaws early in the film stem from his inability to give up for his teammates. This is a major part of his initial tension with Leo. However, through his efforts to support his team and then help Arthur survive, Michael shows impressive growth across the film. Arthur The King is a compelling story that highlights the importance of persistence but notes that trait is different than just throwing oneself into challenges at the cost of others.
