Arthur Morgan Actor Reprises His Role For New Red Dead Redemption Project

Roger Clark, the actor who plays Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, is set to reprise his role for a new Red Dead Redemption-inspired project. Rockstar’s western series starts in the 1860s with Red Dead Revolver, although the events of this game were interpreted more as folklore in the two Red Dead Redemption titles. The Red Dead Redemption games cover the end of the Wild West, with the prequel Red Dead Redemption 2 starting in 1899, and the epilogue of Red Dead Redemption taking place in 1914.

As reported by IGN, Clark will be narrating an audiobook of historian Tore Olsson’s Red Dead’s History: A Video Game, An Obsession, And America’s Violent Past in character as Arthur Morgan. Rockstar pulled from real historical events and incorporated real-life criminals from this time throughout its storytelling, enabling Olsson’s book to cover American history through the lens of the Red Dead Redemption games.

Tore Olsson Teaches A Red Dead Redemption History Class

Olsson Appreciated Red Dead Redemption 2’s “Historical Thoughtfulness”

Olsson is an expert on American history and Red Dead Redemption, teaching the world’s first Red Dead Redemption history class at the University of Tennessee after playing Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, Olsson stated that he’s not so interested in the question of accuracy, but rather in the historical “thoughtfulness” Rockstar implemented into its storytelling to create the mood of the world and tell the realities of that time.

The choice not just to have Roger Clark as a narrator, but to also have him do it in character as Arthur Morgan is certainly an interesting one, and it will be fun for players to hear from the character again nearly six years after experiencing his tragic story. Clark stated in another interview with IGN that one of the reasons he was interested in narrating Olsson’s audiobook was because he knew how much research went into the games by Rockstar, particularly regarding cultural historical accuracy.

It’s a testament to the work done at Rockstar that not only is there a book highlighting the real-world events that play out in their games, but also an entire university course dedicated to Red Dead Redemption‘s take on American history.
