Arrowverse’s Lex Luthor Reacts To Superman & Lois’ Recasting

Jon Cryer, who played Arrowverse’s Lex Luthor, reacts to the news of Superman & Lois having recast the role. While being initially conceived as an Arrowverse spinoff, Superman & Lois season 2 revealed its status in the shared universe was quite different. Despite being part of the overall franchise, Superman & Lois actually takes place on a different Earth in the Arrowverse multiverse. While crossovers between Superman & Lois and (the remaining Earth-Prime show) The Flash can happen, time will tell if it will this year. Superman & Lois season 3 is currently set to premiere on Tuesday, March 14, followed by the launch of Gotham Knights. As the Arrowverse drama is still shooting its ongoing seasons, news recently broke that The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz has joined Superman & Lois. The star is set to bring to life one of the most iconic Superman villains in the comics, as he will be playing Lex in the new season.

While Superman & Lois has brought in other Arrowverse actors to play new versions of their characters, the series is going in a different direction with Lex. Cryer, who played Lex on Supergirl and in the Arrowverse crossovers, reacts to the casting announcement not long after Cudlitz was tapped for the gig. While jealous about the new take on Lex, Cryer has nothing but praise for Cudlitz being cast as the latest live-action version of the DC foe.

Everything We Know About Superman & Lois’ Lex Luthor

Up until this point, Lex has only been referenced a few times in Superman & Lois while not being seen on-screen. While it’s unknown when his first episode will be, The CW provided a character description of this new incarnation of Lex. In this continuity, he is LexCorp’s “visionary billionaire” while still having a rep in the criminal underworld. The CW teases this take on Lex as a brutal psychopath “who terrorizes anyone” he clashes with. When he first appears in Superman & Lois season 3, it will have been years since he was in the public eye. Now, he is determined to correct “a personal injustice,” and his targets include Lois and Superman.

It’s unclear right now if this version of Lex knows that Clark Kent is Superman and how deep their history is at this point. It also remains to be seen if Superman & Lois’ Lex has a similar family history, including whether his parents are still alive or if Lena Luthor even exists in this world. Another question worth raising is whether Lex will be the main villain of Superman & Lois season 3. Given the big casting, it feels safe to speculate he will definitely be pulling some crucial strings this year.

According to The CW, Superman & Lois season 3 picks up only a few weeks after the events of the season 2 finale. Lois and Clark will be working together at the Smallville Gazette alongside Chrissy, who learned the former’s secret in the finale. Jordan Kent will be experiencing the challenges of keeping a dual identity, as it is easier said than done to be a superhero and live a normal life. Michael Bishop will also star as the new Jonathan Kent after Jordan Elsass exited the series in 2022. One of the other foes will be Bruno Mannheim, who John Henry Irons will be investigating, as the Intergang killed Steel’s doppelgänger. With less than two months to go, hopefully more clues will begin to emerge about the new Lex on Superman & Lois.
