Arrow Season 4: First Look at Rutina Wesley as Lady Cop

Arrow is poised to take its story to the next level when The CW show returns this fall for season 4. We’ve been hearing for a while that the upcoming batch of episodes will bring a focus on magic and mysticism, with characters like Matt Ryan’s John Constantine set to make an appearance.

However, along with that increased emphasis on supernatural forces, the series looks to be adding some more grounded characters to the proceedings as well. Take, for example, this latest glimpse at one such new addition.

Paul Blackthorne – who plays Quentin Lance on Arrow – took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes snapshot of himself along with Stephen Amell and Rutina Wesley, who will play Liza Warner when the show returns next month. Her character will be part of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force given the task of taking down Green Arrow and his superheroic friends.

In the DC comics, Warner is perhaps (somewhat) better known as Lady Cop, an obscure DC character notable for having a photographic memory and above-average crime-solving skills. If Arrow hews closely to that aspect of her comic book counterpart, she could prove to be a tougher adversary than Oliver and his friends may initially assume.

Prior to her role on Arrow, Wesley starred on True Blood as Tara Thornton and also recently appeared on several episodes of NBC’s Hannibal. It’s unclear how prominent a role she will have in season 4 of Arrow and beyond, but there’s potential for her to evolve into an ongoing presence, both threatening the activities of Oliver and (perhaps) eventually offering a helping hand now and again. Only time will tell exactly how the show will proceed, in this respect.

Other characters that will join the fun in Arrow season four include the following:

  • Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), the high-tech gadget using antagonist that Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle describes as being “pure evil.”
  • Lonnie Machin/Anarky (Alexander Calvert) and Curtis Holt/Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum), a new enemy and ally for Team Arrow, respectively.
  • DC Comics villain Jeremy Tell/Double Down (JR Bourne) and Jessica Danforth (Jeri Ryan), two characters whose time on the show will be connected.
