The trailer for the upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One introduces viewers to new characters while also sprinkling in brief scenes of familiar faces such as Cillian Murphy’s Emmett and Djimon Honsou’s Man on the Island characters from A Quiet Place Part II. Furthermore, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s Lee and Evelyn Abbott characters from A Quiet Place also make a brief appearance in the trailer’s beginning moments. While there are many exciting things to expect from A Quiet Place: Day One, one of the biggest concerns is whether the beloved Abbott family will make a reappearance in some capacity.

Despite the lack of details regarding the upcoming movie, what is known is that A Quiet Place: Day One is a prequel that will likely carry on the horror sci-fi franchise’s legacy the same way A Quiet Place Part 2 did in 2021. While A Quiet Place Part 2 tied up many loose ends, the movie’s structure and clever storytelling still deliberately left many questions unanswered, which makes the upcoming prequel that much more exciting. A Quiet Place: Day One can solve many mysteries from previous installments, chiefly among them, concerning Blunt and Krasinski’s return to the franchise.

It’s Unclear Whether John Krasinski & Emily Blunt Are In A Quiet Place: Day One

Lee and Evelyn Abbott can appear in A Quiet Place: Day One since it is a prequel.

Although Emily Blunt has hinted at her involvement in A Quiet Place: Day One, nothing is set in stone as the movie is slated for a June 2024 release, and the filmmakers don’t want to reveal everything too soon. What further complicates Krasinski and Blunt’s involvement in the upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One is that the movie is a prequel rather than a direct sequel. While Krasinski’s Lee Abbott perished at the hands of one of the aliens in the first movie, Abbott does make a cameo appearance in the sequel in the form of a flashback.

The scene itself provides audiences with a greater sense of what the Abbott family’s home life was like prior to the alien invasion that starts the events of the movie. While the scene is a nice way to include Lee in future A Quiet Place movies, it also suggests that Lee, Evelyn, and even the rest of their family could reappear in A Quiet Place: Day One in a similar capacity. However, since A Quiet Place: Day One is a prequel, it’s likely that viewers will spend more time with the newer characters as opposed to the Abbott family.

More evidence that suggests Evelyn and Lee can make a reappearance in A Quiet Place: Day One is that Hounsou’s Man on the Island is prominently seen interacting with A Quiet Place: Day One‘s Sam – played by Lupita Nyong’o. As seen in A Quiet Place Part 2, the Man on the Island is the leader of a small colony of survivors who works tirelessly to help rescue as many people as possible from the alien invasion. While his involvement in A Quiet Place: Day One bodes well for possible Evelyn and Lee cameo appearances, it doesn’t outright confirm anything.

Hounsou’s return in A Quiet Place: Day One means audiences will learn more about the Man on the Island’s backstory and how he became the leader of the survivors. While this bodes well for his character’s development, it implies that viewers can see a similar model being applied to Evelyn and Lee. Their brief appearance in the trailer along with Murphy’s Emmett is likely to be more than just a recap for the franchise, but if Evelyn and Lee don’t return, that wouldn’t necessarily be a detriment to the film.

Why The Abbot Family Doesn’t Need To Appear In A Quiet Place: Day One

The franchise has already proven with A Quiet Place Part II that audiences respond well to new characters.

As well-written and acted as Evelyn and Lee were, they’re not needed for A Quiet Place: Day One, since the idea would be to let the mostly new cast of characters show audiences what they bring to the table. Without any full-proof evidence of the Abbott family returning in the prequel, it could be jarring if they suddenly show up in the prequel – even if it were a brief cameo – since the trailer has made strong efforts to highlight the new characters and New York setting.

While Man on the Island’s reappearance makes sense considering his mysteriousness, Evelyn and Lee only make up a tiny fraction of the world the franchise is set in. Additionally, A Quiet Place Part III is set for a 2025 release, which will no doubt see the Abbott family carrying on the franchise’s legacy. While a cameo appearance from Evelyn and Lee would be a neat homage to the characters and the world that they established, it runs the risk of being a gimmick and possibly taking away some of the spotlight from the newer characters in A Quiet Place: Day One.
