Are Any Suits Original Cast Members Returning For The LA Spinoff?

With more information about Suits: LA releasing, the question arises whether the original Suits cast will reprise their roles in the upcoming NBCUniversal series. Suits was on the air from 2011 to 2019, gaining a decent viewership from the outset. Four years after going off the air, the already popular series became a worldwide phenomenon after dropping on Netflix in the summer of 2023. Suits dominated Netflix’s streaming charts, and the most logical step to capitalize on the success was to create a spinoff.

The new Suits show was confirmed in October 2023. Set in Los Angeles, California, this series will follow a new law firm that focuses on entertainment law and a new set of lawyers. More information about the show is gradually coming out, but the details are still sparse, leading to speculation from fans. One subject of discussion is whether the Suits cast and characters will appear in Suits: LA. While there’s no official answer, educated guesses can be formed based on the most recent news.

No One From The Original Suits Cast Is Confirmed For The LA Spinoff

Are Any Suits Original Cast Members Returning For The LA Spinoff?

While fans hope to see some of their favorite Suits characters on the LA Spinoff, none of the original cast members have been confirmed for Suits: LA. There are a couple of explanations for this. Firstly, the show has been advertised as existing within the same universe but not a reboot or revival. This means that the show will include a whole new set of characters at the forefront, even if they include cameos or guest roles from established Suits actors.

Additionally, not much is known about the show. The Suits: LA spinoff plot is still extremely vague and mysterious, making its connection to the original show unknown. The show could still include a more obvious connection to the characters and firm in Suits, keeping it hidden until the new NBCUniversal show premieres. Alternatively, they could choose to separate the show entirely from its predecessor, in which case it would seem odd for the Suits cast to appear in the upcoming spinoff.

Lastly, only two characters have been announced for the series. The two named main characters in Suits: LA are Ted and Erica. Ted is played by Stephen Amell from Arrow. An actress for Erica hasn’t been announced yet. Considering they haven’t cast both the announced characters or shared the names of the rest of the characters in Suits: LA, it seems unlikely they would confirm the original Suits actors for the show at this point. With these things in mind, it’s still feasible that the original cast could guest-star or make cameos in the upcoming series.

Several Suits Stars Have Revealed If They’d Return For The New Show

Many cast members of Suits have expressed interest and excitement at the idea of appearing in the Suits: LA. spinoff. While on the set for their Super Bowl commercial, Gina Torres, Rick Hoffman, and Sarah Rafferty all stated to PEOPLE that they’d love to come back, even extrapolating about where their characters might be now. Wendell Pierce also said he was interested in reprising his role as Robert Zane on Suits: LA (via TV Insider). During an interview with USA Network about her role on NBC’s Extended Family, Abigail Spencer also seemed open to returning to the Suits universe.

In addition to these five stars, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams have spoken extremely highly about their time on Suits. When talking with The Hollywood Reporter, they both acknowledged that their characters could appear again in Suits: LA, seeming open to the idea. However, neither of the actors has actually received communication about reprising their roles. Ultimately, that makes seven big actors from Suits who would happily return for the upcoming spinoff.

Suits’ Spinoff Is Taking A Major Risk By Removing One Original Show Element

The new Suits spinoff that will be set in Los Angeles will officially move forward on NBC, but it has one risky difference from its hit parent show.

The biggest question mark from the cast is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex – previously called Meghan Markle. Since marrying Prince Harry, Meghan has only one acting credit to her name. She appeared in Netflix’s controversial docuseries Harry & Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex might be trying to get back into acting, considering she signed with the talent agency WME (via Variety); however, that’s simply speculation. Regardless, Meghan’s appearance on Suits: LA seems unlikely for two main reasons. Macht and Adams expressed in their interview that they hadn’t heard from the actress. Additionally, she wasn’t at the Suits Golden Globes reunion.

How Suits’ Original Actors Can Return For The Upcoming Spinoff

The four Suits characters who are most likely to appear in Suits: LA are Harvey, Donna, Mike, and Rachel – who all reside in Seattle, Washington now. That’s a significantly closer commute than going from New York City to Los Angeles. Since Suits wasn’t always like a real law firm, Suits: LA could follow suit by ignoring the fact that lawyers need different licenses across different states. As such, Ted’s firm could seek help from these four in a major case that crosses over corporate law or litigation with entertainment law.

The Suits spinoff’s main character and Harvey have another connection as well, which gives many of the original cast a way to appear. Ted and Harvey both worked in government jobs in New York before their respective careers. Ted was a federal prosecutor in New York, while Harvey took a job in the New York City District Attorney’s office. As such, there’s a good chance that these two characters know of each other or have crossed paths, if not actually being on friendly terms. When his company gets into trouble, Ted could turn to Harvey for help in Suits: LA.
