Apples Never Fall Season 2 Already Has A Story (But It Wouldn’t Be The Same)

Apples Never Fall Season 2 Already Has A Story (But It Wouldn’t Be The Same)

Apples Never Fall already has the perfect story for season 2, but it won’t have the same impact as the first batch of episodes. Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, Apples Never Fall chronicles the Delaney family’s response to the disappearance of their mother, Joy. The mystery surrounding Joy is solved during Apples Never Fall’s ending, but the Peacock series leaves some threads open-ended.

In particular, the fate of one of Apples Never Fall’s main characters is left unknown. And while the Delaneys’ story is neatly wrapped in season 1, this character could easily carry the show into a second outing. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn’t be as powerful as the first because it’d be missing one of season 1’s major strengths.

Savannah’s Open Ending Is The Perfect Setup For Apples Never Fall Season 2

Although the Delaney family gets a happy ending in Apples Never Fall’s finale, Savannah’s story isn’t properly resolved. After confronting Joy about her true identity and getting into a car crash, Savannah — or Lindsay Haddad — runs off and isn’t heard from again. It’s likely she’ll continue to be a con artist, especially now that she’s on the run from the police. And that means Apples Never Fall season 2 could follow her next scheme, introducing her new victims as its main characters.

Moriarty’s book also sees Savannah returning home and taking revenge on her mother, something that never happens in the Peacock series. A second outing could address Savannah’s family life, though it’s hard to say how it would fit an entire season around it. Apples Never Fall’s book changes do leave it as a possibility though, even if such a story wouldn’t have the same appeal as season 1’s narrative.

Apples Never Fall’s Most Obvious Follow-Up Would Be Missing A Season 1 Strength

While there’s certainly room to expand on Savannah’s story in Apples Never Fall season 2, this direction would be missing a major season 1 strength: the unexpected connection between Savannah and the Delaneys. Even if new episodes follow her attempts to con a new family, it’s unlikely to be as personal as her antics in the first outing. And focusing on Savannah’s family would be fascinating, but season 1’s twists would make it difficult to deliver any new surprises.

Perhaps this is why Apples Never Fall is currently a miniseries — and its creator sees it staying that way. The possibility of Apples Never Fall season 2 got a definitive response from Melanie Marnich during an interview with TV Insider. Marnich admitted that she sees “no need for a second season,” as the story from Moriarty’s book is “fully told.” So, while Apples Never Fall could technically continue, it probably won’t. And knowing that it’s unlikely to recapture the magic of season 1, that may be for the best.
