Apple TV+’s New Historical Comedy Sets Up A Long-Awaited Reunion For 20-Year-Old Adventure Show

Apple TV+’s New Historical Comedy Sets Up A Long-Awaited Reunion For 20-Year-Old Adventure Show

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is Apple TV+’s new British comedy, and the show could be quietly setting up a cameo that would mean a long-awaited reunion for a zany duo who made their BBC debut in 2004. The historical comedy, led by The Great British Bake Off‘s Noel Fielding, has recently been added to Apple TV’s impressive line-up, and the show has used some clever casting to get fans of Fielding’s past work excited.

Dick Turpin tells the tale of the infamous highwayman in a way that shows an intentionally flagrant disregard for historical accuracy. While Fielding is the star of the show as he steps into the shoes of the show’s title character, other familiar British comedy icons have already appeared. As such, Dick Turpin seems to be acting as a vehicle for a specific type of comic actor to enter the fray unannounced. If so, there’ll be one person in particular from one of the most underrated British sitcoms that a large portion of the target audience will be waiting to see.

Dick Turpin’s The Mighty Boosh Guest Stars Could Mean A Julian Barratt Cameo Is Coming

Barratt starred alongside Noel Fielding in all three seasons of The Mighty Boosh

Noel Fielding’s most famous comedy project is the irreverent sitcom, The Mighty Boosh, which ran for three seasons between 2004 and 2007. The Mighty Boosh fans may have already recognized certain Dick Turpin guest stars. For instance, Michael Fielding plays Dick’s cousin Benny in the Apple comedy, and the actor appeared in every episode of The Mighty Boosh as the shaman, Naboo. Similarly, Dick Turpin‘s Unrobbable Coachman is played by Rich Fulcher – another prominent Boosh actor. If this cameo trend continues, Julian Barratt could appear in Dick Turpin to team up with Noel Fielding again.

Barratt, who played Howard Moon opposite Noel Fielding’s Vince Noir in The Mighty Boosh, hasn’t worked with his former co-star since a 2009 comedy movie called The Bunny and the Bull. The film had a very similar comedic style to The Mighty Boosh, which explains the presence of not only Barratt and Fielding, but also Rich Fulcher. The Mighty Boosh relied heavily on the chemistry and comedic timing that existed between its core cast members, but Barratt and Fielding were at the heart of it all.

Who Julian Barratt Could Play In Fielding’s Dick Turpin Show

The new character for Fielding’s The Mighty Boosh co-star needs to be similar to his most famous role

What made the dynamic between Barratt and Fielding so entertaining in The Mighty Boosh was the fact they were the polar opposites of one another. Fielding’s Vince Noir was an easy-going man of the people – not unlike his portrayal of Dick Turpin – and Barratt’s Howard Moon was always shown as uptight and inflexible. With Fielding’s Dick Turpin already sharing similar characteristics with Vince Noir, it would make sense to write a character for Julian Barratt that aligned with his Boosh persona and recaptured his chemistry with Fielding.

The structure of Apple’s Dick Turpin shows allows for the coming and going of various characters with relative ease. One of the best options for a Julian Barratt cameo in Fielding’s new show would be to install him as the leader of a rival highwayman gang. That way, their characters could have all the petty exchanges and drawn-out disagreements they had in The Mighty Boosh. If so, the reunion of Barratt and Fielding would greatly benefit The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.
