Ronald D. Moore is going back to space, thanks to a new straight-to-series order from Apple. The creator is perhaps best known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, where he spearheaded the revised series to much critical acclaim and fan praise. It’s gone down as one of the most impressive moments in science fiction television.
Of course, Moore’s work over the years has gone further than simply Battlestar Galactica. Before his time on Battlestar, Moore worked on a number of Star Trek series, from The Next Generation through to Voyager. In general, whenever Moore takes on the depths of space audiences are in for a treat – although, of course, every show has its bad episodes.

Thankfully, there will be another chance for Moore to return to a space-themed show. As reported by Deadline, Apple has ordered a new space drama from Moore to series. The as-yet-untitled project is being developed by Moore’s own Tall Ship Productions with Sony Pictures Television, and Fargo co-executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi are also on board alongside Maril Davis.
At the moment, details on the project are expectantly thin on the ground. However, the series will apparently focus on an alternate timeline where the global space race never reached its conclusion, which will certainly give Moore plenty of scope to explore some of those deep themes that made Battlestar Galactica such a beloved show.
The new show will act as one part of Apple’s attempt to break into the market held by content creators and distributors. The tech company announced this year that is was investing $1 billion into original movie and television content, and has already made some big moves. As one example, Apple is developing a television show with Reece Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.
Many fans of Moore’s work have been wondering what the creator would develop next, particularly after the Battlestar Galactica reunion at ATX this year. A new space-themed drama will certainly give Moore the chance to stretch his legs, moving away from the adaptation of Outlander that he has recently been known for and into something purely original. Of course, not everything that Moore has worked on has been entirely successful, with Helix being a prime example of a show that had its fans but failed to deliver in the ratings department, but any new project with Moore as a creative lead is bound to excite science fiction fans.
