Apple Films Wins Bidding War for Brad Pitt & George Clooney Thriller

Apple Original Films won the bidding war for a new Brad Pitt and George Clooney-led thriller. The Oscar-winning duo have a long history both on and off-screen, appearing in five films together. While Clooney and Pitt were last seen together in the Coen Bros. acclaimed film Burn After Reading in 2008, the pair are perhaps most remembered playing opposite each other in the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. Fans of the Hollywood staples grew excited upon hearing the friends would reunite for a project helmed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home).

THR revealed that Apple Original Films beat out various streamers and studios in a wild bidding war for the movie. Though little is known about the desirable film, it’s said to be a thriller centering on “two lone wolf fixers assigned to the same job.” Watts is set to write, direct and produce, with Clooney and Pitt headlining and producing under their respective banners Smokehouse Pictures and Plan B Entertainment.

Apple beat out major companies like Sony, Lionsgate, Netflix, Amazon, Annapurna, Universal, MGM, and Warner Bros. The tech company turned entertainment moguls no doubt put down some big money for the flick. Of course, the bid gives Apple a lucrative investment, as audiences always turn up to see Clooney and Pitt onscreen. Putting them together has often proved to be pure movie magic.

The Clooney-Pitt project puts another feather in Apple’s hat of upcoming original features. From Martin Scorsese’s buzzy Killers of the Flower Moon starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, to a Charles Dickens holiday musical movie starring Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds and Octavia Spencer, Apple has a successful upcoming slate on their hands.
