Although many were highly anticipating Glen Powell’s new rom-com with Sydney Sweeney, Anyone but You, the film actually hurt the actor by ruining his positive Rotten Tomatoes streak. Glen Powell began acting in 2003 when he landed a role in the childrens action movie, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. From there, the actor earned minor roles in projects like The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 3, Scream Queens, and Everybody Wants Some!!. Powell’s most recent project was when he joined the cast of 2023’s Anyone but You as Ben. The film has ultimately ruined Powell’s trend of highly rated movies.

Anyone but You follows Ben and Bea, two people who had a one night stand that could have been something more, but was quickly ruined when Ben spoke badly about Bea behind her back. Later, Ben and Bea meet again at Bea’s sister’s wedding, and the two decide to pretend to date for their own personal agendas. However, their pretending leads them to develop actual feelings for each other, and the two must sort out their differences to make their love work. Ultimately, despite the hype surrounding the movie, it earned a less-than-stellar 49% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Anyone But You Is Glen Powell’s First Rotten Movie Since 2018

It is definitely disappointing for Glen Powell that his new movie received a mediocre score on Rotten Tomatoes, but what makes it worse is that Anyone but You’s score ruins a long-running streak that Powell held on Rotten Tomatoes. Since 2018, Glen Powell’s movies have all been Certified Fresh, or at the very least, well-scored. In total, there are six movies that Glen Powell has appeared in that have received amazing Rotten Tomatoes scores. These include Set It Up, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood, Top Gun: Maverick, Devotion, and Hit Man.

In fact, Anyone but You is something of a rarity when it comes to Glen Powell’s Rotten Tomatoes scores. Typically, his projects either do incredibly well or incredibly poorly. For example, his best scoring project is Top Gun: Maverick at 96%, whereas his worst ranked project is Misconduct, which comes in at a 7%. In general, he has few movies that run somewhere in the middle, however Anyone but You is exactly that. With a 49%, Anyone but You totally shakes up Glen Powell’s Rotten Tomatoes chart.

Glen Powell’s Rom-Com Set It Up Started His Great Rotten Tomatoes Run

What is even more ironic about this situation is that the genre that ruined Glen Powell’s Rotten Tomatoes score is the same genre that started his upward climb. Anyone but You is a rom-com that brought down Powell’s overall score, but the movie that started his Rotten Tomatoes winning streak was Set It Up, a rom-com featuring Powell and Zoey Deutch. That movie earned a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and was Certified Fresh. Therefore, what Glen Powell can learn from this scenario is that the romantic comedy can either boost him way up or totally bring him down.
