Anthony Hopkins’ Robot Character Revealed In Snyder’s Rebel Moon Image

Sir Anthony Hopkins’ robot character from Zack Snyder’s new film, Rebel Moon, has been revealed in a new image. The upcoming Netflix film has been described as a science-fiction epic and will reportedly be split into two movies and shot back-to-back. Rebel Moon is written by Snyder alongside fellow Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves writer Shay Hatten as well as Act of Valor and 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad. The screenplay for the film was originally conceived as a Star Wars movie but was restructured and rewritten to feature a brand new story following Lucasfilm’s sale to Disney in 2012.

Rebel Moon is said follow a woman named Kora (Sofia Boutella) who must enlist the help from warriors from other planets to protect her home world from the evil tyrant Balisarius (Ed Skrein). Clearly inspired by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s work, The Seven Samurai in which farmers seek out a group of warriors to protect their village from a violent warlord, the chosen heroes will be an eclectic group of characters each with their own unique styles that will compliment each other in battle. As is the case, the cast of the film has grown exponentially and will include Ray Fisher as Blood Axe and Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, as well as Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Carey Elwes, Corey Stoll, and Stuart Martin in undisclosed roles. Hopkins was recently announced as joining the cast of the film in a prominent role as a sentient battle robot with the designation JC1435, also known as Jimmy.

Snyder recently took to Twitter to share a first look at Hopkins’ robot character Jimmy from his upcoming science-fiction epic Rebel Moon. In response to Hopkins’ recent casting announcement, Snyder posted the picture with an enthusiastic caption reading, “That’s right!!!” Check out the image below.

De-saturated of color, as is practically a Snyder stylistic trademark, the new image features Jimmy as a haunting figure shrouded in a shaggy cloak and adorned with horns of an animal. Its piercing robotic blue eyes contrast the natural rough appearance of Jimmy’s clothing. This image raises questions as to why a robot designed for war would carry a staff and be dressed in such a unique ritualistic manner.

Although details of Rebel Moon‘s story have been kept under wraps, Jimmy is a likely candidate as one of Kora’s champions to protect her colony from the armies of Balisarius. As evident in the photo, the design of the character is striking and will no doubt feature a healthy dose of visual effects to enhance its other-worldly appearance. With filming set to run over one hundred days and last until November, no official release date for Rebel Moon has been announced.
