Ant-Man & The Wasp: Cast, Character & Comic Connections Guide

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Cast, Character & Comic Connections Guide

The cast of Ant-Man and The Wasp features many familiar faces, but also quite a few new and important characters taken from Marvel Comics. Marvel Studios’ 20th movie may not have a cast quite as star-studded as that of Avengers: Infinity War, but it does feature screen legends like Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Pfeiffer.

It’s been three years since Ant-Man hit theaters. Thanks to a smaller budget than most Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, the final $519 million box office haul was a success. Marvel fast-tracked the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and rearranged the Phase 3 slate in the process to bring the franchise back.

Ant-Man & The Wasp’s Main Heroes

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Cast, Character & Comic Connections Guide

Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man – Despite a history of crime, Scott turned his life around after leaving prison and became the hero known as Ant-Man – even if he had to steal to do it. This new lifestyle led to him being put on house arrest after the events of Civil War, where he sided with Team Cap. He’ll return to being a hero in the sequel, where his shrinking and growing abilities are sure to help save the day.

Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp – After taking a teaching role in the first movie, Hope is finally going to step into the fray herself. She’s trained for this her entire life, and has been given an even more advanced suit than her partner. Wasp can shrink just like Ant-Man, but she also has wings that allow her to fly and blasters to pack an extra punch in combat. With the help of her father, they’re still trying to rescue her mother from the Quantum Realm.

Michael Douglas as Hank Pym – Hank’s days as a superhero may be behind him, but he’s still a vital part of this heroic team. The creator of Pym Particles and both suits for Scott and Hope, he’s usually the smartest guy in the room. He’s on the run with Hope as they continue their Quantum Realm research.

Returning Ant-Man Friends & Family

Michael Peña as Luis – The fast-talking, long-winded, and easily distracted best friend to Scott. He’s left the life of crime to start X-Con Home Security, a security company of his own. In what could be a tie to when Scott opened Ant-Man Security Solutions in the comics, Luis will be around and help anyway he can.

Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris as Dave – Another former criminal turned good, Dave has already helped Scott save the day before. He’s now employed by X-Con Home Security, although his talents as a getaway driver may not be put to the best use.

David Dastmalchian as Kurt – A wizard with a computer, the Russian keeps to himself but gets the job done. Also working with his friends at X-Con Home Security, there may not be a problem he can’t fix. That could be put to the test if they’re roped into helping Scott with the latest threat.

Abby Ryder Fortson as Cassie Lang – Scott’s adorable daughter Cassie only sees the good in him. He’s always been a hero in his eyes, and in turn she inspires Scott to be a better person. Cassie now has dreams of being a superhero too, and with her eventually becoming Stature in the comics, that may just be something these films are already building towards.

Judy Greer as Maggie – Scott’s ex-wife has come around to accepting him back into their lives. She’s moved on and is focused on raising their daughter, Cassie. They may not make up the perfect family, but Maggie and everyone else is at least putting in the effort to make it work.

Bobby Cannavale as Paxton – As a police officer in San Francisco, he’s now part of a difficult situation. He’s already arrested Scott once before, but since helped find a loophole to allow him to continue his heroic duties. His ethical dilemma could be put to the test once again.

The New Villain

Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost – The mysterious Ghost steps into the sequel to become the latest foe for Ant-Man and Wasp. While Ghost was a male character in the comics, Ant-Man and The Wasp cast Killjoys star Hannah John-Kamen in the role. She maintains her intangibility powers and wants access to the Quantum Realm herself, leading to the conflict with the heroes. There may be more to her than meets the eye, which could make her ties to the story even stronger.

New Characters With Comic Ties

Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne – Janet hasn’t been seen or heard from since going subatomic in 1987, having been been lost in the Quantum Realm ever since. Scott’s ability to return from there in the first movie reignites a search to find her. If they do, they’ll bring Pfeiffer into her second comic book movie role, after previously playing Catwoman in Batman Returns. With Janet being an original member of the Avengers in the comics, it’s about time she makes it to the big screen.

Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster/Goliath – A longtime friend to Hank in the comics, some connection exists between them in the sequel. He helped work on Project Goliath in the past and grew to a personal best 21 feet. Fishburne’s also jumping from the world of DC, where he plays Perry White, to Marvel once again, as he previously voiced Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch – Goggins joins the MCU to bring Sonny Burch into the picture. He was a chairman of Cross Technologies in the comics, so if that is the same for the film, he’s got an understandable gripe with Ant-Man and his team. After all, they wiped away Cross Technologies’ new building in the first film. It could be up to Sonny to try and keep the company alive.

Randall Park as Jimmy Woo – Someone has to try and keep tabs on Scott while he’s on house arrest, and that task has been given to Jimmy Woo. He’s a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the comics, but that doesn’t appear to have translated to the big screen. An FBI agent for the purposes of the sequel, he may have a difficult time keeping Scott’s whereabouts straight.
