Ant-Man and the Wasp Will Reportedly Introduce Bill Foster

Ant-Man and the Wasp Will Reportedly Introduce Bill Foster

As information continues to grow on Marvel sequel Ant-Man & the Waspit’s being reported that the studio is looking to cast a major principal actor that fits the description of comic book character Dr. Bill Foster/Black Goliath.

As we get deeper and deeper into the Marvel Cinematic Universe mythology, the studio has the opportunity to expand their character roster and feature the more obscure, non-A list corners of Marvel canon. Guardians of the Galaxy feels like it was the unofficial kick-off of this trend in a major way, but these characters have been peppered throughout the MCU in all of their films. Ant-Man & the Wasp will continue this trend, having already added Randall Park as S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Jimmy Woo and Hannah John-Kamen in a mysterious, but significant, role. Rumors have now surfaced about the involvement of another lesser known but significant Marvel hero in the bite-sized sequel.

According to ThatHashtagShow, their sources have learned that Marvel is about to fill the role of a principal role in Ant Man & the Wasp that calls for an African American male between the ages of 55 to 65. Though this is no confirmation of any sorts, this fits the description of Dr. Bill Foster, known in the Marvel universe as the hero Black Goliath. The site knows that the studio has an actor interested and in talks for the role, but have not been told which actor it is by their source.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Will Reportedly Introduce Bill Foster

Black Goliath was introduced for the first time as Bill Foster in Avengers #32 in 1966 as a brilliant biochemist and peer of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man played in the 2015 film by Michael Douglas. He earned his super powered moniker in 1975, possessing the ability to grow to massive sizes and utilize super strength. Considering the casting requirements for the role, if this is indeed Dr. Bill Foster, then it’s likely that he’s a retired hero and just a former peer of Pym. In fact, it’s possible that in this version Black Goliath doesn’t exist, and Foster is just your everyday average genius in the MCU.

Per usual, Marvel hasn’t outright come out and confirmed this rumor, but with D23 and San Diego Comic-Con upcoming, that might give them a public outlet to get ahead of the rumors and reveal some tidbits about all of their upcoming films, including Ant-Man & the Wasp. We already have seen a first-look glimpse of Wasp on a D23 banner, which seems to imply that the film will have some sort of presence on the panel. Since filming just began recently, footage is not likely, but casting announcements and concept art could be fair game, and we may find out if Dr. Foster is indeed in Ant-Man & the Wasp.
