Animal Crossing: Where to Get Candy (& What It’s For)

Jack, the Czar of Halloween, is a staple of the Animal Crossing world, and it would be amiss if Animal Crossing: New Horizons didn’t find a way to incorporate him into the fall season. With the newest update, the Animal Crossing world will once again welcome Jack to the player’s islands for a night of fun, spook, and trick or treating.

Players are encouraged to participate in various Halloween activities. Throughout the month of October, players will have numerous ways of feeling festive from home. And what type of Halloween would it be without candy? The game offers ample opportunity for players to get candy to use in-game. But how does one get candy? And what is it for?

Animal Crossing: Where to Get Candy (& What It’s For)

It’s important to get enough candy to last all through Halloween eve. When opening the game on October 1, players will notice a few changes have happened around their island. Jack has started making his presence known by sending the player a letter with a special gift. To be sure players are ready for Jack’s and Halloween’s arrival, grabbing a lot of candy is a must.

Finding the candy is fairly simple. Head down to Nook’s Cranny, which has been updated to reflect the upcoming holiday season. Once inside, players should head to the case that offers tools, wallpaper, flooring, and other miscellaneous things that are used throughout the game. The very first item in that case should be a piece of candy for 120 bells.

This is where things get a bit sticky. Because candy is in such a high demand for the season, Timmy and Tommy will only allow players to purchase one piece of candy a day. That means that every time a player logs in throughout the month of October, it’s imperative that players stop by Nook’s Cranny and pick up their one piece of candy. Players will be able to do this every day up until October 31.

Although candy is a fun concept, it’s not a new thing in the Animal Crossing world. Picking it up for Halloween gives players a chance to try out in-game trick or treating.

The Halloween event is set from 5 pm until 12 am on October 31. On Halloween eve, players will see villagers on their island dressed in their best costumes. Stop by and talk to these villagers. Although your first interaction will be just a conversation, the second will be the villager giving players the standard trick or treat!

This is where the candy comes in handy. When villagers say trick or treat, be sure to hand them a piece of candy. By handing villagers candy, the player gets a chance at some new, Spooky furniture.

The Spooky furniture is a series that consists of items that resemble pumpkins. Overall, there are 15 Spooky series items to collect throughout Halloween. Additionally, players who participate in trick or treating also have the chance to get two exclusive Halloween reactions: Scare and Haunt. Although players could just pick up 15 pieces of candy, it may be beneficial to pick up more than that. Particularly because players can trade candy with Jack for other items, such as a pumpkin helmet. But that entirely depends on how players want their Halloweens to go.

Alternative Methods for Getting Candy

Although the above method is the best way to get candy, there are a few other ways to get candy that can be beneficial to players. It is recommended that players pick up at least 15 pieces of candy before Halloween to ensure that they get every piece of Spooky furniture, but what if that doesn’t happen? Luckily, the game offers a few back up plans to help ensure players get the furniture they want.

During the first week of October, Isabelle mentions that players should be picking up clothing items to put together a costume for Halloween. As it turns out, this can be extremely helpful advice for players who want to get their hands on more candy and Spooky furniture. On the day of the event, players should wear some of their best costumes, and not just because it’s the perfect season to wear costumes. While in costume, head towards a villagers house who is actually staying inside for the Halloween event. Speak to the indoor villager and, in return, the villager will give players one free piece of candy. Although this won’t get players a big boost in their candy numbers, it can help if players a few candies shy of all the Spooky furniture.

Another alternative for players to get their hands on more candy would be for players to dress up as Jack. To do this, players will need to speak to Jack and give him two pieces of candy. Jack will, in turn, give the player Jack’s Face and Jacks’ Robe. Once these items are acquired, change the character out of their costume and put them in the new Jack outfit. From here, players should speak to villagers, both indoors and outdoors. The poor villagers will be so scared, they’ll hand over pieces of candy to the player. Unfortunately, this method can only get players one piece of candy per villager, so it should be used more as a last resort rather than the go-to method. Also, it’s worth noting that players can keep the Jack outfit, which is a bit of a nice touch.
